Crews battled flames for hours at a lumberyard on Jensen Drive in north Houston. The fire caused power outages before being brought under control.<\/p>\n
HOUSTON \u2014 Firefighters spent several hours overnight battling flames that tore through a lumber yard in north Houston early Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Crews were called to the scene along Jensen Drive, where towering flames were shooting through stacks of lumber outside a commercial building.<\/p>\n
Houston Fire Department District Chief Wesley Swanson said the fire appeared to involve lumber stored outdoors and a small nearby structure.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s mostly just lumber that\u2019s stacked and then there was some sort of small structure there. We\u2019re not exactly sure what it was, if it was a storage shed or something like that,\u201d Swanson said. \u201cWe were able to control the fire rather quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although firefighters managed to contain the flames within a few hours, the fire caused power outages in the area after taking down several electric lines. CenterPoint Energy crews remained at the scene Wednesday morning to restore service.<\/p>\n
Investigators are still working to determine what started the fire.<\/p>\n
