\n Brendan Fraser<\/a> and Rachel Weisz<\/a> are reportedly in talks with movie executives to reunite for the next instalment of \u201cThe Mummy\u201d franchise.\n <\/p>\n

\n The news was reported online by entertainment site Deadline<\/a>, which said it had learnt of the prospective movie from \u201cmultiple sources.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n While the plan has not been officially confirmed, the site reported that the next instalment will be written by David Coggeshall, whose previous credits include \u201cThe Family Plan\u201d and \u201cThe Deliverance.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Coggeshall appeared to confirm the news on social media, tweeting<\/a> out the Deadline article with the comment: \u201cCat\u2019s out of the bag, I guess :)\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Fraser and Weisz starred in the original, 1999 film \u201cThe Mummy.\u201d The movie\u2019s massive success gave a huge boost to the careers of the young actors, who are now in their mid-50s. Both have since gone on to win Oscars \u2014 Weisz in 2006 for her supporting role in \u201cThe Constant Gardener\u201d and Fraser in 2023 for his performance in \u201cThe Whale.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The pair appeared together in the 2001 sequel, \u201cThe Mummy Returns,\u201d while Fraser returned alone in 2008 for \u201cThe Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor\u201d following the death of Weisz\u2019s character in the second movie. Neither was involved in the poorly received 2017 reboot of the franchise starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe.\n <\/p>\n

\n It is unclear where Weisz\u2019s character, English Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan, would fit in to the next chapter, given that she was killed off in the 2001 sequel. But back in 2022, Fraser told Variety<\/a> that he was not averse to reprising his role as American adventurer Rick O\u2019Connell.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI don\u2019t know how it would work,\u201d Fraser told Variety. \u201cBut I\u2019d be open to it if someone came up with the right conceit.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n CNN has reached out to representatives of Fraser and Weisz.
