On this mission, one key\u00a0objective\u00a0was to attract secondary and tertiary suppliers to Houston to further\u00a0establish\u00a0the region as a growing hub for AI, advanced manufacturing, energy, and life sciences.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Greater Houston Partnership, in collaboration with Houston First,\u00a0Taipei Economic &amp; Cultural Office in Houston, Japan America Society of Houston,\u00a0and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo,\u00a0led a high-impact trade mission to\u00a0Taiwan\u00a0and\u00a0Japan\u00a0aimed at strengthening global relationships, advancing economic collaboration, and positioning the Houston region as a leading destination for international investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Judge Hidalgo\u2019s participation underscored the region\u2019s deep commitment to global engagement and economic diplomacy, reflecting the importance of international relationships to Houston\u2019s continued growth and resilience.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>RELATED:<\/b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houston.org\/news\/houston-advances-global-growth-strategy-at-vivatech-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Advances Global Growth Strategy at VivaTech 2025<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJapan and Taiwan are home to leading businesses on the\u00a0cutting edge\u00a0of innovation, from\u00a0Inventec\u00a0to Foxconn. Those companies have a choice of where they can invest, and I want to ensure that they invest in Harris County if they\u00a0haven\u2019t\u00a0already, and\u00a0grow their investment if they have. Our community has so much\u00a0going\u00a0for it: we have the Port of Houston,\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0a center for medical technology in the Texas Medical Center, we have a booming aerospace and petrochemical industry, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0leading the clean energy transition. I am proud to be leading a delegation of powerhouse representatives that will drive wins for businesses and for Harris County,\u201d said Judge Lina Hidalgo.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0trade mission\u00a0began in Taipei, where leaders met with executives from\u00a0Inventec\u00a0and Foxconn, two global technology firms that\u00a0both recently invested in Houston operations,\u00a0exemplifying\u00a0Houston\u2019s growing role as a\u00a0hub for advanced manufacturing and clean technology.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24027 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/CJO00687-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"451\" height=\"338\"  \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Houston Delegation with Invetec Leaders<\/p>\n<p><b>RELATED:<\/b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houston.org\/news\/houston-leads-u-s-manufacturing-reshoring-with-taiwanese-investments-surge\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Leads U.S. Manufacturing Reshoring With Taiwanese Investments Surge<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The delegation\u2019s time in Taipei also included\u00a0meetings with the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs, Cooler Master, and CTBC Bank,\u00a0all of\u00a0which\u00a0highlighted\u00a0opportunities for collaboration in areas\u00a0such as\u00a0advanced manufacturing, finance, and\u00a0digital infrastructure.\u00a0The mission also reinforced the strong cultural and academic links between\u00a0Taipei\u00a0and Houston,\u00a0sister cities\u00a0where innovation and\u00a0collaboration\u00a0thrive side by side.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In Tokyo, the delegation held high-level meetings with Vice Governor Akiko Matsumoto of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and executives at JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization)\u00a0and Keidanren\u00a0Kaikan, as well as top energy and manufacturing leaders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two Houston Investment Summits in Tokyo highlighted the region\u2019s strengths in energy transition, life sciences, and advanced manufacturing, and attracted\u00a0strong interest from Japanese\u00a0investors\u00a0and small and medium-sized\u00a0enterprises (SMEs). The delegation also toured Mitsui\u2019s Kashiwa-no-ha Smart City in Chiba,\u00a0another of Houston\u2019s sister cities,\u00a0underscoring shared priorities in sustainability, health innovation, and\u00a0next-generation\u00a0infrastructure. In addition,\u00a0the delegation met\u00a0with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries\u00a0(MHI)\u00a0leadership, including\u00a0President\u00a0&amp; CEO\u00a0of MHI America\u00a0and Partnership board member,\u00a0Takajiro\u00a0Ishikawa,\u00a0which further\u00a0reinforced the strong industrial and innovation ties between Houston and Japan.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the mission,\u00a0sponsors\u00a0and delegates\u00a0from CenterPoint Energy, Cole Chemical, Rice University, and the Yasuhiko &amp; Akemi\u00a0Saitoh\u00a0Foundation contributed to dialogues that connected Houston\u2019s academic, industrial, and philanthropic strengths with those\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0Taiwan\u00a0and\u00a0Japan.\u00a0These\u00a0engagements reinforced Houston\u2019s position as\u00a0both\u00a0a global gateway for Asia-based companies entering the U.S. market\u00a0and\u00a0a critical partner for\u00a0collaboration in energy, innovation, and sustainability.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEngagement\u00a0in Taiwan and Japan\u00a0is essential to Houston\u2019s economic future,\u201d said John Cypher, Vice President of International Investment and Trade at the Greater Houston Partnership. \u201cTrade missions like this one allow us to strengthen relationships with our global partners, attract new investment, and showcase Houston\u2019s leadership in energy transition, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As global dynamics continue to shift, Houston\u2019s proactive international outreach ensures the region\u00a0remains\u00a0competitive on the world stage.
