MANHATTAN, New York (WABC) — The New York Transit Museum and the MTA announced the schedule and route for this year’s annual Holiday Nostalgia Train.<\/p>\n
The holiday tradition allows riders to step into the past, riding in a vintage 1930s train car. Rides are free with standard subway fare.<\/p>\n
According to the New York Transit Museum, the Holiday Nostalgia Train features eight cars from the 1930s that served on lettered lines through the late 1970s. They were built for the first subway company operated by the City of New York, and complemented the Independent Subway System’s Depression-era Art Deco aesthetic.<\/p>\n
They feature rattan seats, paddle ceiling fans, incandescent light bulbs, roll signs, and period advertisements.<\/p>\n
This year, the Holiday Nostalgia Train will be in operation every Sunday in December from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..<\/p>\n
It will depart for its uptown route from the station on 2 Av-Houston St on the uptown F line in lower Manhattan at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., and 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
It will depart for its downtown route from the station at 96 St- 2 Av on the Q line at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
Riders can board the train at any station along its two routes. For stops between 2 Av-Houston St and Lexington Av-63 St, riders should board on the F line platform. For stops between Lexington Av-63 St and 96 St- 2 Av, board on the Q line platform.<\/p>\n
