JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 A Jacksonville family is heartbroken and searching for answers after 38-year-old Kenance \u201cTiger\u201d Bronson was shot and killed over the weekend in the city\u2019s Brentwood neighborhood.<\/p>\n

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office, officers responded to the 4300 block of Brentwood Avenue on Saturday <\/a>after reports of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.<\/p>\n

That man was identified by his family as Kenance Bronson, a father of three and a beloved figure in his community.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a great person. He had a big heart,\u201d Bronson\u2019s family said. \u201cRemember his smile and just how happy he was to give to others. That made him happy \u2014 it brought him joy to take care of other people, especially kids. He loved kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bronson\u2019s mother, Mary Bronson, told News4JAX she was at the Florida-Georgia football game.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy grandson called me panicking, saying, \u2018Mama, where you at? You need to get to the hospital. Tiger been shot, and he\u2019s unresponsive,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cI thought he was just panicking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mary said she waited for hours in the emergency room before learning her son didn\u2019t make it.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we were walking back to the trauma center, a chaplain must\u2019ve thought we already knew,\u201d she said. \u201cShe said, \u2018So y\u2019all know he gone.\u2019 That\u2019s something I don\u2019t wish on my worst enemy. It\u2019s something no mother should ever have to go through.\u201d<\/p>\n

Family members described Bronson as a man who never met a stranger and who always looked for ways to help others \u2014 from paying for people\u2019s meals to mentoring neighborhood kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy strength \u2014 that God gave me \u2014 I\u2019m having to use to keep this group together,\u201d Mary said. \u201cThe calls and visits from my friends are the strength that\u2019s keeping me going.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite their grief, the Bronson family is holding onto faith and calling for justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want the people that took my son from me to know not only did they hurt and kill Tiger, they hurt a community,\u201d Mary said. \u201cYou didn\u2019t have to do that to him, and you definitely didn\u2019t have to do it to me. If you have any remorse out there, turn yourself in. Let us know who you are and tell us why you did it.\u201d<\/p>\n

JSO confirmed that several people have been detained in connection with the shooting but said no arrests have been announced as detectives continue to investigate what led up to the gunfire.<\/p>\n

Bronson\u2019s family says they hope someone will come forward with information that could help detectives find justice for their loved one \u2014 a man remembered for his big heart and his love for others.<\/p>\n

\u201cTiger was full of life,\u201d Mary said. \u201cHe loved people, and people loved him.\u201d<\/p>\n
