This week, we\u2019ve got a celebration of cinema, an appreciation for architectural excellence, and an epic theater experience making its return to Houston after more than 30 years. Keep reading for these and more below.<\/p>\n<p>Live at the Founders Club returns to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehobbycenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hobby Center for the Performing Arts<\/a> on Thursday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m. with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehobbycenter.org\/events\/divas-across-the-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Divas Across the Decades<\/a> starring America\u2019s Got Talent alum <a href=\"https:\/\/christinawells.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christina Wells<\/a>. Wells, who you may have seen on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Theatre Under the Stars<\/a>\u2019 stage in productions like The Little Mermaid and Newsies, will be joined by a live band, with backing vocals from LaBraska Washington and Lydia Jackson, to perform music from iconic divas from the 1940s to today in an intimate, club-like environment. The show will be performed a second time at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 7, and tickets are available for both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehobbycenter.org\/events\/divas-across-the-decades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> for $65 to $100. But act quick \u2013 tickets for both performances are close to selling out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2024\/film\/reviews\/dreams-in-nightmares-review-1236094025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Variety noted<\/a> that through Shatara Michelle Ford\u2019s second feature film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfah.org\/events\/dreams-in-nightmares\/202511061930\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dreams in Nightmares<\/a>, seems to begin a familiar road trip story, it \u201cpunctures those expectations to deliver something grander and more poetic\u201d with characters that explore \u201cwhat it means to be Black and queer in contemporary America.\u201d The film will make its Texas premiere as the opening night selection for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinemahtx.org\/hcaf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston Cinema Arts Festival<\/a> on Thursday, November 6, at 7:30 p.m. at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfah.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Museum of Fine Arts, Houston<\/a>. The film kicks off more than 50 films, as well as workshops, music showcases, a photography exhibition, and more at locations across the city, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theriveroakstheatre.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">River Oaks Theatre<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aurorapictureshow.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aurora Picture Show<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rice.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rice University<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedeluxetheater.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DeLUXE Theater<\/a>. Credit: Chris Dunn<\/p>\n<p>The parking lot, front lawn, and the block of Southmore Boulevard surrounding <a href=\"https:\/\/asiasociety.org\/texas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Asia Society Texas<\/a> will once again turn into a <a href=\"https:\/\/asiasociety.org\/texas\/events\/night-market-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Night Market<\/a> on Friday, November 7, from 6 to 10 p.m. The festival will feature more than 80 local, Asian American and Pacific Islander-owned businesses and performers who will be on hand as local retail and food vendors and for Japanese carnival activities and live dance performances by <a href=\"https:\/\/southseasproductions.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Seas Productions<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uh.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of Houston<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfsa.com\/modern\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UH Modern<\/a>, Kajal Desai Dance,\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stthom.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">University of St. Thomas<\/a> Filipino Student Association. Throughout the evening, you can also enjoy a beer garden, Karaoke Korner, a Chinese lantern display from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hbg.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston Botanic Garden<\/a>, sumo wrestling demonstrations, and after-hours access to the museum\u2019s latest exhibit,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/asiasociety.org\/texas\/exhibitions\/house-pikachu-art-anime-and-pop-culture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The House of Pikachu: Art, Anime, and Pop Culture<\/a>.\u00a0The outdoor market is free, with indoor access available for $5 to $10 <a href=\"https:\/\/asiasociety.org\/texas\/events\/night-market-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Weimar\u00ad-era Berlin, Valeska Gert made a name for herself as a cabaret artist, becoming \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dangerousminds.net\/art\/valeska-gert-the-pioneer-of-performance-art\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">well-known for her wild, unpredictable, highly controversial, beautiful yet often grotesque performances<\/a>.\u201d On Friday, November 7, at 7 p.m., <a href=\"https:\/\/opendanceproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Open Dance Project<\/a> will open <a href=\"https:\/\/matchouston.org\/events\/2025\/dada-gert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DADA GERT<\/a>, an hour-long immersive, multimedia performance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/life\/article\/Review-Dada-Gert-as-immediate-as-dance-can-12919298.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described by the Houston Chronicle<\/a> as \u201cthe choreographic equivalent of the writer\u2019s maxim, \u2018show, don\u2019t tell,\u2019 plunging viewers into the agitated mind of German-Jewish performance artist Valeska Gert\u201d within \u201ca woozy, frenetic environment, contained like the inside of a Pandora\u2019s Box.\u201d Friday\u2019s performance is sold out, but additional shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursdays, 7 and 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. Sundays through November 22. Tickets are available <a href=\"https:\/\/matchouston.org\/events\/2025\/dada-gert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> for $35, with pay-what-you-can (minimum $5) performances scheduled for 9 p.m. on November 8 and 15.<\/p>\n<p>Laurel and Hardy biographer <a href=\"https:\/\/silentfilm.org\/the-real-stan-ollie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Randy Skretvedt has said<\/a> that the comedy duo\u2019s 1929 short film Liberty was built to accommodate a joke that had to be cut from one of their previous films. The joke centered on Laurel and Hardy accidentally donning each other\u2019s pants and getting caught each time they try to switch. Liberty is one of the silent films you can see on Friday, November 14, at 8 p.m. when <a href=\"https:\/\/roco.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ROCO<\/a> returns to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theriveroakstheatre.com\/movies\/RiverOaks\/ROCO-Connections-From-Silence-to-Sound\/RO900-124174000017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">River Oaks Theatre<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/roco.org\/performances\/roco-connections-the-river-oaks-theatre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">From Silence to Sound<\/a>, a program led by guest conductor and composer <a href=\"https:\/\/andrewesimpson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andrew Earle Simpson<\/a>, who will lead the ensemble as they perform Simpson\u2019s own original scores for Liberty, Disney\u2019s Silly Symphony, and Charlie Chaplin\u2019s The Immigrant. Credit: Jim Parsons<\/p>\n<p>Get a peek behind the doors of the city\u2019s architectural gems on Saturday, November 8, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.preservationhouston.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Preservation Houston<\/a> hosts the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.preservationhouston.org\/goodbricktour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">12th Annual Good Brick Tour<\/a>\u00a0from noon to 5 p.m. Ticket holders will have the opportunity to visit four distinct properties, all of which are winners of the preservation and restoration-minded Good Brick Awards, including a First Ward bungalow built in 1921, a Classical Revival in the Old Sixth Ward Historic District, an Anderson Todd-designed steel-framed pavilion, and the three\u00a0Style in Steel\u00a0townhomes created by the firm behind the Astrodome. The tour continues on Sunday, November 9, from noon to 5 p.m. You have until today, Thursday, November 6, to buy advance tickets <a href=\"https:\/\/www.preservationhouston.org\/goodbricktour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> for $25. $30 tickets will be available at the door, with single-site admission tickets also available for $10 at each location.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, November 8, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recroomarts.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rec Room Arts<\/a> opens part one of Tony Kushner\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recroomarts.org\/angels-in-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Angels in America<\/a>, it will mark the first time in more than 30 years the two-part play \u2013 about AIDS, politics, religion, and identity in Reagan-era America \u2013 will be professionally produced in Houston. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sophiawatt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sophia Watt<\/a>, who co-directs with Matt Hune, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.outsmartmagazine.com\/2025\/11\/angels-in-america-rec-room\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told OutSmart<\/a>, \u201cThings feel politically pretty unstable at this moment in time, and that can be pretty scary and pretty intense,\u201d adding, \u201cI was really interested in plays that fought back against that and provided a roadmap of hope, challenge, and rigor in the face of systems that want to eradicate you. Angels seemed to fit the bill.\u201d Both parts, Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, will be presented on alternating evenings at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays through December 30. Tickets are available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recroomarts.org\/angels-in-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> for $20 to $45.<\/p>\n<p>Six new large-scale sculptures, all created by Houston Latinx artists and inspired by women found in myths, legends, and Latin American history, will be unveiled on Sunday, November 9, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfah.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Museum of Fine Arts, Houston<\/a> again hosts its family-friendly fall festival, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mfah.org\/events\/2025-fall-festival-myths-and-leyendas-mujeres\/202511091300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Myths and Leyendas: Mujeres<\/a> from 1 to 5 p.m. In addition to the temporary sculptures in Cullen Sculpture Garden, festivalgoers can enjoy art-making activities, food for purchase, live music from Mariachi Orgullo de Houston and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arslyricahouston.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ars Lyrica<\/a>, dance by <a href=\"https:\/\/htx-cultural-dance-community.square.site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HTX Cultural Dance Community<\/a>, short films presented by <a href=\"https:\/\/houstonlatinofilmfestival.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston Latino Film Festival<\/a>, a game of\u00a0Loter\u00eda\u00a0with cards depicting works of art you view at the museum, and more.
