But those who don\u2019t say they\u2019re also struggling with high food costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>JACKSONVILLE, Fla. <\/strong> \u2013 Much focus has been placed on how the government shutdown is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/11\/03\/local-snap-recipients-say-partial-funding-for-program-isnt-enough-took-some-of-the-bill-money-away\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/11\/03\/local-snap-recipients-say-partial-funding-for-program-isnt-enough-took-some-of-the-bill-money-away\/\">affecting people who rely on food stamps,<\/a> but those who are not on food stamps say they\u2019re finding it harder to purchase groceries because of current food prices. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">News4JAX visited three different grocery store chains in Jacksonville to see exactly how much basic items like meat and produce cost. If it expires, she says she won\u2019t have food next month<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cA much bigger percentage of our income is going to groceries, and we got to have them because we have to eat,\u201d said Hamlett.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cEverything has gone up,\u201d Negahsh noted. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI\u2019m spending 25% to 30% more,\u201d Omesol added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">So exactly how much are shoppers paying? While inside grocery stores, News4JAX primarily focused on meats and produce at all three grocery store chains. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">At <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aldi.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.aldi.us\/\"><b>Aldi<\/b><\/a>, lettuce prices ranged from $2.69 to $3.29 per bag. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.winndixie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.winndixie.com\/\"><b>Winn-Dixie<\/b> <\/a>was selling bagged lettuce for $5.49. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.publix.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.publix.com\/\"><b>Publix<\/b><\/a><b> <\/b>had lettuce prices ranging between $4.99 and $5.49.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Then, we looked at meat prices at all three store chains, specifically, beef, pork, and chicken. Each price at all three store chains has a range based on the cut of the meat and portion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Beef at Aldi ranged between $6.99 and $11.29 per pound. Pork was between $2.39 and $3.99 per pound.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">At Winn-Dixie, the price per pound ranged between $5.99 and $19.99.
