\n\tAfter hearing songwriter Sara Bareilles<\/a> perform the song \u201cSalt Then Sour Then Sweet\u201d from Come See Me in the Good Light<\/a>, it\u2019s difficult to believe she is relatively new to the poetry of Andrea Gibson, the subject of the Apple Original Films<\/a> documentary\u00a0that follows the poet after their cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI came to Andrea\u2019s poetry only about a year before I got to meet them and got invited into the world of this film, which has been a truly life-changing experience,\u201d Bareilles said at Deadline\u2019s Sound & Screen: Film event.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt wasn\u2019t just Gibson\u2019s poetry that captivated Bareilles, but also the spirit with which they approached their illness. \u201cThey had an incurable cancer diagnosis and came to Instagram with just an incredible amount of transparency, vulnerability, humor and light,\u201d said Bareilles. \u201cIt was just an amazing way of holding this very dark matter with tremendous care and grace.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter being contacted by an \u201celite, tiny crew of Andrea devotees\u201d determined to tell their story in an intimate way, Bareilles joined the documentary project as executive producer and was able to collaborate with Brandi Carlile and Gibson.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAndrea and Ryan White, the director, had talked a lot about wanting an original poem at the end of the film, so Brandi and I were given these pages of couplets and ideas \u2013 sort of an unfinished love poem to Meg, Andrea\u2019s partner,\u201d she said. \u201cAndrea wanted people to leave the theater feeling just love-soaked. And I think when you see this movie, when you see this film, you will feel soaked in love.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGibson attended the film\u2019s world premiere<\/a> at this year\u2019s Sundance Film Festival. They died in July.<\/p>\n

\n\tDespite the dark subject matter, Bareilles wants is to make sure everyone can see the beauty hidden within the documentary. \u201cThe director says this a lot when he\u2019s talking about the film,\u201d she said. \u201cYou hear poetry and cancer and you\u2019re like, that sounds like a \u2018must miss\u2019 \u2026 It is the most life-affirming, hilarious, beautiful, poignant, brilliant film. I was blown away the first time I watched it. I have never felt more, excited to be alive than watching this film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIt premieres globally on Apple TV on November 14.<\/p>\n
