{"id":361479,"date":"2025-11-07T05:30:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T05:30:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/361479\/"},"modified":"2025-11-07T05:30:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T05:30:15","slug":"billy-bob-thornton-stars-of-landman-walk-red-carpet-for-fort-worth-premiere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/361479\/","title":{"rendered":"Billy Bob Thornton, stars of \u2018Landman\u2019 walk red carpet for Fort Worth premiere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although Academy Award-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton didn\u2019t grow up in Fort Worth, he considers it his favorite U.S. city.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Not only does he love celebrating Fort Worth\u2019s Western culture, but he appreciates seeing the city serve as the primary film location for the return of his latest television project \u201cLandman.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor years and years, it was kind of the little sister to the big sister, and Fort Worth is really getting us through now,\u201d Thornton said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thornton and \u201cLandman\u201d cast members Sam Elliott, Paulina Ch\u00e1vez, Michelle Randolph and James Jordan gathered at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Nov. 6 for an early screening of the hit Paramount+ series\u2019 Season 2 premiere. (Maria Crane | Fort Worth Report\/CatchLight Local\/Report for America)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLandman\u201d follows the dangerous work and family drama of Tommy Norris, played by Thornton, as he negotiates leases with landowners to explore and develop their property for energy production. Throughout the first season, Norris navigates challenging relationships between corporate executives, Mexican drug cartel members and workers in the oil and gas industry in the Permian Basin.<\/p>\n<p>The series was co-created by Sheridan and Christian Wallace, host of the Texas Monthly \u201cBoomtown\u201d podcast that inspired the TV show. The series has been<a href=\"https:\/\/www.keranews.org\/arts-culture\/2025-07-11\/landman-returns-to-film-at-this-small-town-in-north-texas-an-hour-outside-fort-worth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> filmed primarily in and around Fort Worth<\/a>, including Sundance Square Plaza, Frost Tower and Texas Christian University.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The first season was a hit, viewed by 14.9 million worldwide, making it the most watched Paramount+ original series and renewing interest in the industry, Andrea Spencer, director of communications for the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/07\/19\/yes-shes-a-fort-worth-landman-and-shes-in-taylor-sheridans-hit-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously told the Report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Filming in Fort Worth has been key to the show\u2019s success, Wallace said, since the city has provided an \u201cauthentic and genuine\u201d view of Texas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFort Worth is like Texas on steroids,\u201d Wallace said at the red carpet premiere. \u201cIt\u2019s very welcoming and it\u2019s a lot of fun. Fort Worth is the perfect spot for this show.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>North Texas has become a prime location for filmmakers in recent years in response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2024\/12\/27\/taylor-sheridan-asked-texas-legislators-to-support-film-incentives-heres-what-could-happen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">coordinated push from state filmmakers and actors<\/a> like Sheridan and Matthew McConaughey to grow the industry in Texas. In late May, state lawmakers passed a bill allocating <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/10\/31\/reel-money-fort-worth-filmmakers-have-new-grants-resources-through-texas-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0$1.5 billion for film and television productions over the next decade<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sheridan is currently building a Fort Worth campus that will be home to <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/08\/13\/texas-big-landman-producer-sheridan-hillwood-paramount-partner-on-fort-worth-studio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the largest production studio in Texas<\/a>. (Maria Crane | Fort Worth Report\/CatchLight Local\/Report for America)<\/p>\n<p>Season 2 of \u201cLandman\u201d picks up \u2014 spoiler alert \u2014 with Tommy navigating his new role as president of M-Tex Oil after company CEO Monty Miller, played by Jon Hamm, died following his hospitalization for a heart attack.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tommy must now work closely with Monty\u2019s widow Cami, played by Academy Award nominee Demi Moore, as she questions whether she can legitimately run the oil company. Elliott joins this season\u2019s ensemble as Tommy\u2019s father T.L. \u201cPop\u201d Norris, who is expected to introduce new family conflicts to the series.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ch\u00e1vez, who plays Ariana, is excited for fans to see her character flourish and step into her own after the first season, which saw her widowed when her husband died in an oil rig accident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s really discovering what she needs, and she has a beautiful storyline that I\u2019m so excited for everyone to see,\u201d Ch\u00e1vez said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Thornton described the upcoming season in five words: humorous, dramatic, emotional, dangerous and absurd.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery now and then in great movies in the old days, there was always some absurdity to hit the audience in the face with something,\u201d he said during the red carpet. \u201cIt\u2019s why the show\u2019s successful, because these characters are unabashedly who they are.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLandman\u201d Season 2 premieres on Paramount+ Nov. 16.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>David Moreno is the arts and culture reporter for the Fort Worth Report.
