As we said in our review of her show in Irving last week, Doechii is a high-energy, risk-taking artist<\/a> with a strong connection to her fans. She is, we wrote, \u201cthe future of hip-hop.\u201d<\/p>\n

What some people may not know is that Doechii has a connection to Dallas. Her frequent production collaborator Kal Banx is a Dallas native<\/a> and did a set at her show at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on Oct. 29.\u00a0Miles \u201cSuper Miles\u201d Franklin, credited as a producer on her debut Grammy Award-winning mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, is also from Dallas.<\/p>\n

So it\u2019s only natural that after her North Texas stop on her Live From the Swamp Tour, she would drop by LadyLove in Bishop Arts, where she lit up fans as she danced on top of the DJ booth during her official afterparty. Openers Ursa Minor, Junkfood DJ and Joaqu.n set the vibes right for Kal Banx to take over the evening. <\/p>\n

Brandon Blue, who was our pick for Best DJ this year<\/a>, was at the official afterparty and captured the video.<\/p>\n

\u201cAround 12:30 a.m., people started to flood in. Doechii\u2019s tour DJs [Banx and Joaqu.n] took over and instantly\u00a0brought the energy up with Southern classics, and before I knew it\u2026it felt like Doechii just spawned into the booth,\u201d he wrote via Instagram. \u201clol idk when she even got there but for someone who is on tour and just wrapped up a show just a couple hours ago, she didn\u2019t lack any energy. She was rapping bar for bar with fans, entertaining any camera that was in her face, and then hopped on the booth and essentially gave a mini-performance. Something about LadyLove\u2019s\u00a0environment made it feel less like a celebrity walkthrough and more like she was just one of the homies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kate Siamro<\/a>, owner of LadyLove, also gave her thoughts on the excitement of seeing Doechii.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so fortunate we had the opportunity to have Kal Banx and Joaqu.n DJing the afterparty of Doechii\u2019s tour in our space,\u201d she wrote via email. \u201cThat hit off around midnight with DJ Junkfood and Ursa Minor opening. We weren\u2019t sure if she was going to show up, it was a night booked very last minute with no guarantee. We were just excited that we got our own successful Dallas native Kal Banx in. We got a call from their agent 15 minutes before she showed up to make sure we had proper security in our space (which we do), so then the magic happened. Our bar was perfectly packed for a Wednesday.\u00a0She walked in with this really warm, raw aura about her and she became queen of the booth so naturally.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cAs an owner my heart was split when she got on top of the booth and started dancing\u2026 half of me was in a panic hoping she wouldn\u2019t slip or fall and it ruin the rest of her badass tour, the other half was in complete awe to see an artist myself and the entire staff admires in her own world vibing with our LadyLove space drinking her Sauvignon Blanc,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt felt like a scene from a movie. Unforgettable, and we are so honored she came to our little LadLove corner of Dallas. I want to add this all was possible thanks to Christy Ray connecting us with Kal Banx\u2019s agent.
