Full list of cuts \u2013 NBC Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chicago-based United Airlines has released a list of weekend flights that are impacted by the Federal Aviation Administration&#8217;s cuts across 40 of the nation&#8217;s busiest markets, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/united-airlines-issues-message-about-which-flights-routes-could-be-cut-as-faa-reduces-capacity\/3848314\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/united-airlines-issues-message-about-which-flights-routes-could-be-cut-as-faa-reduces-capacity\/3848314\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more than 100 United flights<\/a> in and out of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/ohare-midway-among-40-busy-airports-that-could-be-impacted-by-faa-flight-capacity-cuts\/3848249\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/ohare-midway-among-40-busy-airports-that-could-be-impacted-by-faa-flight-capacity-cuts\/3848249\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago airports<\/a> already canceled as of Friday. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/national-international\/faa-reducing-air-traffic-high-volume-markets\/3848055\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/national-international\/faa-reducing-air-traffic-high-volume-markets\/3848055\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">FAA\u2019s goal<\/a> is to relieve pressure on the aviation system so that every airline can continue to operate safely,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.united.com\/en\/us\/fly\/company\/company-info\/airline-schedule-reductions.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.united.com\/en\/us\/fly\/company\/company-info\/airline-schedule-reductions.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United said in a message on its website<\/a>. &#8220;That is the FAA\u2019s highest priority, and ours as well. No matter what environment we\u2019re operating in, we won\u2019t compromise on safety.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>United&#8217;s announcement comes as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/politics\/president-trump\/trump-administration-government-shutdown-election-day-november-04-2025-live-updates\/3847250\/?cardId=1%3A1%3A10892101&amp;noamp=mobile\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/politics\/president-trump\/trump-administration-government-shutdown-election-day-november-04-2025-live-updates\/3847250\/?cardId=1%3A1%3A10892101&amp;noamp=mobile\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. government shutdown<\/a> &#8212; now the longest in history &#8212; drags into its 38th day. Tuesday, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned of &#8220;mass chaos, cancellations and delays&#8221; if lawmakers allow the shutdown to continue into next week. <\/p>\n<p>Transportation Security Agents and Air traffic controllers have been working unpaid since the shutdown began Oct. 1, and most have been on duty six days a week while putting in mandatory overtime. Of those, 34 United flights scheduled to depart or arrive at Chicago O&#8217;Hare International Airport Friday were cut, with that number increasing to 38 Saturday. <\/p>\n<p>Sunday, 42 United flights in and out of O&#8217;Hare were canceled. <\/p>\n<p>United&#8217;s full list of flight cancellations this weekend, which includes routes, times and flight numbers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.united.com\/en\/us\/fly\/company\/company-info\/airline-schedule-reductions.html\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.united.com\/en\/us\/fly\/company\/company-info\/airline-schedule-reductions.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">can be found here<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Other flight cancellations at O&#8217;Hare, Midway<\/p>\n<p>As of 5:45 a.m. Friday, a total of 78 flights at O&#8217;Hare were canceled, the Chicago Department of Aviation flight status website showed, with 18 cancellations at Midway. Dozens of delays at both airports were also expected. <\/p>\n<p>In a statement sent to NBC Chicago, the CDA said it is &#8220;monitoring the situation closely&#8221; as it awaits further details on potential impacts at Midway and O&#8217;Hare.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our team will continue coordinating with airline and federal partners to help minimize any disruptions,&#8221; the statement said. <\/p>\n<p>Overall, the cuts could represent as many as 1,800 flights and upward of 268,000 seats combined, according to an estimate by aviation analytics firm Cirium. <\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what some other airlines have said about cancellations:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Southwest<\/strong> <strong>Airlines <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Southwest Airlines, which operates up to 250 daily departures from Midway, told NBC Chicago Thursday the airline is &#8220;evaluating how the planned FAA flight reductions will affect our schedule and will communicate directly with customers as soon as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Southwest Airlines is determining the scheduling adjustments needed to meet the required FAA flight reductions,&#8221; an updated statement from the airline said. &#8220;While the vast majority of our Customers\u2019 flights will not be disrupted, all Southwest Customers, with travel booked through next Wednesday, November 12, may adjust their travel plans at no cost, or receive a refund if they choose not to travel, regardless of whether their flight is affected. We will communicate directly with affected Customers as soon as possible. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees. We continue to urge Congress to immediately resolve its impasse and restore the National Airspace System to its full capacity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>American Airlines <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>American Airlines posted a travel alert to its website listing 20 airports impacted by the cuts, including Chicago O&#8217;Hare. Anyone traveling to or from those airports can change their flight with waived fees under certain circumstances. More information <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com\/i18n\/travel-info\/travel-alerts.jsp#flightreduction\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com\/i18n\/travel-info\/travel-alerts.jsp#flightreduction\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">can be found here<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>In a statement posted to its website Thursday, the airline said it expects the &#8220;vast majority&#8221; of customers travel to be unaffected, and that long-haul international travel will remain as scheduled.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As schedule changes are made, we\u2019ll proactively reach out to customers who are impacted, American said.  As always, we encourage all customers to check their flight status on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">aa.com<\/a>\u00a0or the mobile app, which will provide real-time updates.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the meantime, we continue to urge leaders in Washington, D.C., to reach an immediate resolution to end the shutdown,&#8221; the statement said.
