A debut in that range would make it the second-highest launch for a \u201cPredator\u201d movie, behind the 2004 sci-fi crossover \u201cAlien vs. Predator\u201d which opened to $38 million. That would also put it above the 2010 and 2018 pair of reboots, creatively titled \u201cPredators\u201d and \u201cThe Predator,\u201d which both opened to around $24 million. With a $105 million budget plus marketing costs, Disney is hoping \u201cBadlands\u201d can use its broader PG-13 appeal to hunt down a profit after disappointing returns from last month\u2019s \u201cTron: Ares\u201d and \u201cSpringsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tFor the first time, a Predator protagonist takes center stage in \u201cBadlands.\u201d Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi\u00a0plays Dek, an outcast Predator, who meets Thia (Elle Fanning), a damaged Weyland-Yutani synthetic from the \u201cAlien\u201d franchise, during a hunt for a deadly beast on an even deadlier planet. They\u2019re both on the run from the ruthless synth Tessa (played by Fanning in a double role) and must reluctantly team up to better their chances of survival. Dan Trachtenberg directs after helming the 2022 prequel \u201cPrey\u201d and this summer\u2019s animated spinoff \u201cPredator: Killer of Killers,\u201d both released direct to streaming on Hulu and Disney+.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cPredator: Badlands\u201d will easily top the charts after a disastrous October box office.
