{"id":362797,"date":"2025-11-07T18:57:21","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T18:57:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/362797\/"},"modified":"2025-11-07T18:57:21","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T18:57:21","slug":"how-ai-will-help-houston-build-a-more-connected-workforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/362797\/","title":{"rendered":"How AI Will Help Houston Build a More Connected Workforce"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I didn\u2019t follow a traditional college-to-career path.\u00a0 My first career choice was based on a classmate\u2019s offhand comment: \u201cYou\u2019re really good at art, you should just go to art school.\u201d I attended college for a while but never completed my degree.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today, as I lead the Greater Houston Partnership\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houston.org\/connectivity\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Connectivity Platform<\/a>, an AI-powered career navigation and workforce development system, I understand firsthand why our region needs a solution like this.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a class=\"Hyperlink SCXW136583830 BCX8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.houston.org\/news\/partnership-shares-vision-for-ai-powered-workforce-development-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Greater Houston Partnership Shares Vision for AI-Powered Workforce Development Platform<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>My Journey<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After high school, I entered the workforce quickly, learning by doing\u2014earning certifications, watching tutorials, and saying \u201cyes\u201d to challenges I hadn\u2019t yet solved. Over the years, I built departments, grew teams, owned multiple companies. I proved that skill, curiosity and grit \u2013 not a diploma \u2013 often determine success.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But event with more than a decade of experience, I still ran into what many call the \u201cpaper ceiling.\u201d At one point, I was recruited for a job at a Fortune 500, only to be told I couldn\u2019t be hired because of an HR policy requiring a degree.\u00a0 Another Fortune 500 company eventually hired me but only after months of internal approvals to make an exception.\u00a0 Those experiences made it clear: too many capable people are shut out of opportunity by outdated hiring barriers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That belief \u2013 that talent exists beyond traditional four-year degrees \u2013 has fueled my commitment to supporting entrepreneurship programs, mentorship, and organizations that create opportunity for those who choose non-traditional pathways.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So when Rafa Alvarez, sr. vice president of regional workforce development at the Partnership, shared his vision for the Connectivity Platform, I was excited. For years I\u2019d said, \u201cIf only Houston knew what Houston knows.\u201d I\u2019ve met incredible organizations doing meaningful work, but too often those efforts are fragmented. The people who could benefit most don\u2019t know they exist.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, with the Partnership\u2019s leadership and the collective power of our region\u2019s businesses, colleges and community partners, we have the opportunity to change that \u2013 and connect Houstonians to the opportunities they deserve.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Challenge\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Each year, tens of thousands of students graduate from Houston-area high schools, and just as many jobs are created. In a perfect world, those two pipelines\u2014education and employment\u2014would connect seamlessly. Yet too often, they don\u2019t. Many young people never find clear paths into careers that match their interests and skills, while employers struggle to fill critical roles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The issue isn\u2019t a lack of talent\u2014it\u2019s a lack of connection. Our education, training, and employment systems operate in silos. The information and opportunities exist; they\u2019re simply not connected in ways that allow people to act on them.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, new technologies like generative AI are reshaping the workforce. Entry-level positions are changing, and skills are evolving faster than ever. But AI also offers enormous potential\u2014it can democratize access to knowledge, simulate mentorship, and personalize career guidance at scale.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>The Solution: Houston\u2019s Connectivity Platform<\/b>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re building with the Connectivity Platform, a cornerstone of the Partnership\u2019s Talent and Economic Mobility imperative under our multi-year framework, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houston.org\/next\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Next: Advancing Opportunity<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Partnership recently selected Pathful Inc., a national leader in career readiness and development, as our technology partner.
