But it appears the actress has had a change of heart.

During an interview with The New York Times’ Lulu Garcia-Navarro released earlier this month, Lawrence said she is going to stop talking politics because she finally realized it was doing more harm than good. It is a decision Megyn applauded during her Megyn Kelly Live tour stop in Jacksonville, Florida, Thursday night.

The About Face

The Hunger Games star has been making the rounds to promote her latest film, which included a sit down with Garcia-Navarro on the November 1 episode of The Interview podcast. The reporter noted that Lawrence was “politically outspoken in the past” and “had a lot to say… during the first Trump administration.” Lawrence also endorsed Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, telling People magazine at the time that “abortion is literally on the ballot.”

With that in mind, Garcia-Navarro said she was “curious” to know how the actress feels “about talking out now.” Lawrence admitted “I don’t really know if I should” anymore.

“I think, like, the first Trump administration was so wild and just how can we let this stand like I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off,” she explained. “But as we learned, election after election, celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for.”

That led to this moment of self-awareness: “So, then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to just add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart. I mean, we are so divided.”

She went on to acknowledge that her outspokenness could (if it hasn’t already) have a negative impact on her career. “I don’t want to start turning people off to films and to art that could change consciousness or change the world because they don’t like my political opinions,” Lawrence said. “I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I’m doing, what I’m showing.”

Megyn believes Lawrence’s about-face is a direct result of the changing cultural tides. “Guess who taught her that lesson? All of you,” she told the crowd. “She realizes now… they hurt their own careers, they embarrass themselves, and they alienate half the country.”

‘That’s All We Ever Asked’

Instead of explicitly weighing in on politics, Lawrence went on to say that she is going to let her work do the talking. “A lot of movies coming out from my production company [Excellent Cadaver] are expressions of the political landscape,” she noted, referencing recent documentaries on topics like the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan and abortion access in Texas. “That’s how I feel like I can be helpful.”

That, in Megyn’s view, is exactly as it should be. “Thank you. That’s all we ever asked. Then, we can choose whether to go to that movie or not,” she explained. “It may be some woke thing that we think is terrible, or it may be some great thing. But if we go to see something that is appealing to us as right-wing people or independent people, we don’t want to be constantly thinking about how much [the actors] loathe us.”

“We are sick of them ruining our movies by coming out and showing their Trump Derangement Syndrome. Why can’t we watch a movie without knowing how much they hate us right? The left never has that problem because even when you have [an actor] declare that they’re conservative… they are never nasty about it,” she concluded. “So, [Jennifer Lawrence clearly] got the lesson.”

You can check out the full ‘Megyn Kelly Live’ show from Jacksonville, Florida on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you like to listen.
