VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 A Jacksonville man was left with serious injuries on I-95 North in Volusia County after a hit-and-run crash involving a tractor-trailer on Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.<\/p>\n

Officials said that before the crash, 28-year-old Kyle McCombes was on the outside shoulder of the interstate working on his disabled car. The semi-truck was traveling north in the outside lane and didn\u2019t see the man on the shoulder and struck him. The driver did not stop to render aid.<\/p>\n

McCombe\u2019s fianc\u00e9e found him lying on the ground two hours later after he called her to tell her that he was stranded. The impact of the truck amputated his right leg, crushed his right arm and hand, and left gashes in his head.<\/p>\n

McCombe was rushed to a hospital in Daytona Beach in critical condition. His parents drove down from Jacksonville to be with their son at the hospital and they remain by his side.<\/p>\n

His parents said that he has had four surgeries since being in the hospital and there\u2019s another surgery scheduled next week. They also believe his recovery could take years.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, medical bills are adding up. McCombe ran a small transportation logistical business and was the breadwinner in a household that included his fianc\u00e9e and two young children.<\/p>\n

His mother made a GoFundMe<\/a> to help pay for expenses related to the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe currently has no insurance, so it\u2019s going to be a lot of out-of-pocket expenses with no insurance and rehab and his household expenses,\u201d Julie McCombs said.<\/p>\n

She said she is hoping that the driver will come forward and turn themselves in.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not out for any type of vengeance,\u201d she said. \u201cWe don\u2019t want to see you sit in jail. We just want you to come forward so that we have some type of closure on what happened to him. Someone hit him and left him and left him on the side of the road to die.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fortunately, Kyle McCombs is alert and talking but he has a long road of recovery ahead. <\/p>\n
