{"id":364104,"date":"2025-11-08T08:27:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T08:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/364104\/"},"modified":"2025-11-08T08:27:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T08:27:14","slug":"carney-tells-business-crowd-a-new-pipeline-project-is-going-to-happen-national","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/364104\/","title":{"rendered":"Carney tells business crowd a new pipeline project is \u2018going to happen\u2019 &#8211; National"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Mark\u00a0Carney\u00a0came close\u00a0to\u00a0telling\u00a0a\u00a0Bay Street audience Friday that he will secure\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0pipeline\u00a0for Alberta, offering his strongest endorsement of the idea yet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>During an armchair talk at the Canadian Club Toronto,\u00a0Carney\u00a0told the audience not\u00a0to\u00a0worry because his government\u00a0is\u00a0on top of \u201cthe\u00a0pipeline\u00a0stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDanielle\u2019s on line one,\u201d he said, referring\u00a0to\u00a0Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. \u201cDon\u2019t worry, it\u2019s\u00a0going\u00a0to\u00a0happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, something\u2019s\u00a0going\u00a0to\u00a0happen, let\u2019s put it that way,\u201d he added, joking about undermining his own bargaining position.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with reporters in Calgary on Friday, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said she hopes\u00a0to\u00a0make progress with Ottawa on the province\u2019s proposal for\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0pipeline\u00a0to\u00a0bring oil\u00a0to\u00a0the B.C. coast, and on advancing the Pathways Alliance carbon capture and storage\u00a0project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m still working with the federal government\u00a0to\u00a0see if we can come up with\u00a0a\u00a0memorandum of understanding so we can get\u00a0a\u00a0bitumen\u00a0pipeline\u00a0to\u00a0Asian markets, as well as the Pathways\u00a0project, as well as remove some of the bad laws that will allow for that investment\u00a0to\u00a0occur,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The idea of\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0oil\u00a0pipeline\u00a0has been\u00a0a\u00a0political hot potato in Canada for years, if not decades. He has mostly refused\u00a0to\u00a0comment on the concept, saying it\u2019s hypothetical without\u00a0a\u00a0proponent pushing\u00a0a\u00a0specific\u00a0project.<\/p>\n<p>B.C. We\u2019re in discussions with the province of Alberta directly on things. But look, we\u2019ve also got\u00a0a\u00a0view that\u2019s shared by the government of Alberta in the \u2018grand bargain\u2019 \u2014 I\u2019m\u00a0going\u00a0to\u00a0quote the premier of Alberta \u2014 that the future of oil export\u00a0is\u00a0going\u00a0to\u00a0be low carbon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwinning additional, in that case, oilsands development with carbon capture makes sense.
