(Al Behrman\/AP)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1864:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-abraham-lincoln-wins-ree\/184454789\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abraham Lincoln<\/a> was reelected president. (Chicago History Museum)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1873:<\/strong>\u00a0The new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-the-palmer-chicago-trib\/184252978\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-the-palmer-chicago-trib\/184252978\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Palmer House<\/a>\u00a0welcomed its first guests. At the time, 175 rooms were ready. Boarding was $3 per day (about $100 per day in today\u2019s dollars). The previous version was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.palmerhousehiltonhotel.com\/about-our-hotel\/\" data-mrf-link=\"https:\/\/www.palmerhousehiltonhotel.com\/about-our-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">destroyed<\/a>\u00a0in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 \u2014 just 13 days after its grand opening.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"5dGAhHdFTj\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2019\/06\/13\/the-rolling-stones-in-chicago-a-timeline-of-the-bands-55-year-fascination-with-the-citys-blues\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Rolling Stones in Chicago: A timeline of the band\u2019s 55-year fascination with the city\u2019s blues<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>1964:<\/strong> The Rolling Stones returned to Chess Records to record music. (Ed Wagner\/Chicago Tribune)<\/p>\n<p><strong>1989:<\/strong> On his 26th birthday, Chicago Cubs rookie <a href=\"https:\/\/chicagotribune.newspapers.com\/article\/chicago-tribune-jerome-walton-top-nl-roo\/184248374\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jerome Walton<\/a> became the first Cub to be named National League Rookie of the Year since 1962 (Ken Hubbs).
