The Oregon-based company joined the shops and restaurants at Uptown Plaza on Camelback Road and Central Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Salt &amp; Straw is famous for its creative and unusual flavors such as strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper and arbequina olive oil. Cousins Tyler and Kim Malek co-founded the company in 2011. Since then, they have expanded to open dozens of stores around the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler said he and Kim initially only dreamed of opening one store.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started as a push cart and we were like, one day, we\u2019re gonna have a brick and mortar,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n<p>The Uptown Salt and Straw location is the duo\u2019s 50th shop.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" height=\"767\" width=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SaltStrawUptownIC.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40618979\"  \/>Salt &amp; Straw is now open at Uptown Plaza on Camelback Road and Central Avenue. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<strong>Will you step up to support New Times this year?<\/strong>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"fundraising-thermometer-body\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWe\u2019re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. The chef and owner of Chilte, a former food-truck turned award-winning modern Mexican restaurant, is no stranger to collaborations. Tyler said the collaboration with Chilte felt natural after the pair met at a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/taco-bell-teams-up-with-chef-of-top-phoenix-restaurant-chilte-18294437\/\">Taco Bell event<\/a> in Las Vegas. <\/p>\n<p>After their meeting, Tyler and Smith exchanged ice cream recipes over text throughout the following two years, but it wasn\u2019t until Tyler surprised Smith with a visit to Chilte that the duo got to work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking at the menu at Chilte, it\u2019s like a chef\u2019s playground,\u201d Tyler said. \u201cIt\u2019s hard to not be constantly inspired.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the new scoop shop\u2019s opening weekend, the duo crafted the Mole de Novia ice cream with brown butter plantains.\u00a0The unique flavor is only available this weekend, and all proceeds benefit the Southern Smoke Foundation, a nonprofit that supports food and beverage workers during emergency situations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Patrons can also enjoy the current Thanksgiving series flavors. Try Turkey Stuffing and Cranberry Sauce ice creams or the vegan Cranberry Orange Sorbet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new Phoenix scoop shop joins two others in the Valley. The company\u2019s first Arizona store <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixnewtimes.com\/food-drink\/salt-and-straw-opens-at-epicenter-in-gilbert-take-a-look-inside-19531852\/\">opened in Gilbert\u2019s Agritopia neighborhood<\/a> in July 2024. Then, just last month, a second location made its debut in Tempe at Novus Place.<\/p>\n<p>At Uptown Plaza, Salt &amp; Straw joins Chula Seafood, Elly\u2019s Brunch Cafe, Flower Child, Zookz Sandwiches, Dynamite Beer, The Henry, Horse &amp; Hyde, Sushi Vibe, Shake Shack, Chipotle and Nekter Juice Bar.<\/p>\n<p>Salt &amp; Straw<\/p>\n<p><strong>100 E.
