Another group of hotel workers have walked off the job in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

Hotel room attendants, cooks, bartenders and other hospitality workers at the Wyndham Philadelphia Historic District hotel, affiliated with UNITE HERE Local 274, have gone on strike. <\/p>\n

The strike began on the morning of Saturday, November 8, with workers demanding family-sustaining wages, humane staffing levels and improvements to healthcare and pensions. <\/p>\n

They want to see these improvements ahead of next year as Philadelphia is set to host a slew of high-profile events.<\/p>\n

This strike follows a four-day walkout by workers at the Hampton Inn Philadelphia last month<\/a>. They were able to ratify a historic contract with significant improvements to wages, healthcare, and working conditions.<\/p>\n

Workers at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown also walked the picket line for four days in October; however, negotiations are still ongoing. <\/p>\n

The Hampton Inn is the first of eight Center City hotels to receive a new contract with UNITE HERE Local 274.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re striking for a fair contract, for fair wages. We\u2019re standing up to the bosses to gain our respect and integrity back,\u201d\u00a0Wyndham restaurant server Monica Burks shared in a news release.<\/p>\n

UNITE HERE Local 274\u00a0represents 4,000 private sector hotel and food service workers who work at the stadiums, airports, and hotels throughout the Philadelphia area. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Another group of hotel workers have walked off the job in Philadelphia.
