Alabama senator and former college football coach Tommy Tuberville believes Zohran Mamdani\u2019s historic victory<\/a> in Tuesday\u2019s mayoral election will turn New York City into an Islamic territory by 2029.<\/p>\n

The Republican lawmaker, who\u2019s hoping to become his state\u2019s next governor, made his unlikely prediction on Steve Bannon\u2019s \u201cWar Room\u201d podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just saw what happened in New York. We lost New York. It will be completely Muslim in three or four years<\/a>,\u201d Tuberville said Friday. \u201cThat\u2019s what they want.\u201d<\/p>\n

SEN. TOMMY TUBERVILLE (R): The old rules don\u2019t apply anymore. Sixty votes sounded great once, but that\u2019s not the country we live in now.<\/p>\n

Mamdani became New York City\u2019s first Muslim mayor by handily defeating former Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier this week. He campaigned<\/a> on a promise to try to make the city more affordable.<\/p>\n

It appears Tuberville believes that plan will be inviting to Muslims, who are said to account for roughly 9% of the city\u2019s population<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re gonna have everything free there for them and they\u2019re just going to spread throughout the country,\u201d the 71-year-old conservative claimed.<\/p>\n

Tuberville\u2019s speculation about the future of New York City followed his claim that it may be time to change the Senate filibuster rule<\/a> blamed for the federal government shutdown that entered its 36th day on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in a different country, Steve, this is a different time,\u201d he told Bannon.<\/p>\n

Tuberville entered the Senate in 2021. He became a household name in Alabama by coaching the Auburn University football team from 1999 to 2008.<\/p>\n

U.S. News and World Report ranks Alabama<\/a> the 43rd best state in the nation for primary education and the 42nd best for colleges. The state\u2019s Muslim population is less than 1%<\/a>, according to World Population Review.<\/p>\n
