{"id":365441,"date":"2025-11-08T22:03:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T22:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/365441\/"},"modified":"2025-11-08T22:03:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-08T22:03:09","slug":"badlands-rescues-box-office-with-record-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/365441\/","title":{"rendered":"Badlands&#8217; Rescues Box Office With Record Opening"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/dan-trachtenberg\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dan-trachtenberg_1\" data-tag=\"dan-trachtenberg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dan Trachtenberg<\/a> is the hero of the hour as his new movie, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/predator-badlands\/\" id=\"auto-tag_predator-badlands_1\" data-tag=\"predator-badlands\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Predator: Badlands<\/a>, is ending the drought at the domestic <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/box-office\/\" id=\"auto-tag_box-office_1\" data-tag=\"box-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">box office<\/a>. The movie topped Friday\u2019s chart with a huge $15.6 million, putting it on course for a record opening in the $36 million to $38.5 million range (prerelease tracking had it opening to $25 million for the entire weekend).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt\u2019s now guaranteed to score the top opening of the standalone Predator movies. Also, it has a shot at taking the crown from AVP: Alien vs. Predator, which debuted to $38.4 million in 2004, to become the top-grossing title in the sci-fi franchise, not adjusted for inflation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe 20th Century and Disney pic is coming well ahead of expectations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/predator-badlands-review-elle-fanning-dan-trachtenberg-1236417477\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thanks to glowing reviews<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/predator_badlands\" target=\"_blank\">equally growing audience reaction<\/a>. It is the only Predator film, including the two Alien mash-ups, to earn an A- CinemaScore, while its PostTrak exits are through the roof, including five out of five stars. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBadlands, which Trachtenberg co-conceived with his\u00a0Prey\u00a0writer Patrick Aison, blazes a new trail for the now nine-film franchise that began with John McTiernan\u2019s 1987 classic,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/predator-oral-history-arnold-schwarzenegger-film-1014132\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Predator<\/a>. The franchise, from producer John Davis, landed at Disney following the Fox merger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tTrachtenberg has always surprised, beginning with 10 Cloverfield Lane\u00a0(2016) and followed by 2021\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/prey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prey<\/a> and last June\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/predator-killer-of-killers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Predator: Killer of Killers<\/a>, an animated anthology, both of which aired on Disney\u2019s Hulu. In this case, he\u2019s made a villainous Predator named Dek, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, into the protagonist who pairs with \u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/predator-badlands-elle-fanning-synth-1236417805\/\">Elle Fanning<\/a>\u2019s Weyland-Yutani synthetic known as Thia. Dek has been discarded by his Yautja clan, and in a last-ditch effort to prove himself, he flies his brother Kwei\u2019s ship to Genna, the most dangerous planet in the universe, to go on an unsanctioned hunt for its most mythical beast. That\u2019s where he meets Thia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAnother surprise is the stealth-like performance of <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/regretting-you-review-allison-williams-colleen-hoover-1236406867\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/regretting-you-review-allison-williams-colleen-hoover-1236406867\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Regretting You<\/a>, the adaptation of the Colleen Hoover book. Now in its third weekend, the female-skewing movie is suddenly making headlines for its staying power after finally pulling ahead of the hit horror pic <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/black-phone-2-review-ethan-hawke-1236401733\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/black-phone-2-review-ethan-hawke-1236401733\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black Phone 2<\/a>. Paramount is estimating the female property will fall a scant seven percent or less to $7.3 million to come in No. 2 \u2014 despite the entry of a number of new films \u2014 and finish the weekend with a domestic tally of $38.8 million. Marc Weinstock, Paramount\u2019s recently departed worldwide president of marketing and distribution, was the driving force in convincing the prior regime at the studio to pick rights to distribute the pic in the U.S. and select markets on behalf of Constantin films. He\u2019s also largely responsible for the marketing campaign.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBlumhouse\u2019s Black Phone sequel is holding at No. 3 with an estimated $5.2 million in its fourth weekend for a domestic tally of $70 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAmazon MGM\u2019s  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/2026-oscar-predictions-feinberg-forecast\/best-director-187\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sarah\u2019s Oil<\/a> \u2014 based on the true story of a black woman who became the richest woman in Texas because of oil \u2014 looks  to come in No. 4 with a solid $4.4 million opening. While critics are mixed,  the faith-tinged film is resonating deeply with audiences, as evidenced by its coveted A+ CinemaScore and stellar 97 percent ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA gaggle of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/2026-oscar-predictions-feinberg-forecast\/best-director-187\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">awards players is opening<\/a>, led by Sony Pictures Classics\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/nuremberg-review-russell-crowe-rami-malek-leo-woodall-1236364560\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">awards darling Nuremberg<\/a>. The historical pic is expected to round out the top five with an estimated $3.7 million to $4 million. It likewise boasts strong praise from audiences, including an RT score of 96 percent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAward contenders struggling in their box office debuts include Mub<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/die-my-love-review-jennifer-lawrence-robert-pattinson-1236220430\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">i\u2019s Jennifer Lawrence-<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/die-my-love-review-jennifer-lawrence-robert-pattinson-1236220430\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/die-my-love-review-jennifer-lawrence-robert-pattinson-1236220430\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Pattinson<\/a> vehicle Die My Love, which earned a rarely seen D+ CinemaScore from moviegoers, alongside a \u201crotten\u201d audience ranking of 44 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (critics like it far more). It looks to come in No. 8 with roughly $2.5 million to $2.7 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/christy-review-sydney-sweeney-david-michod-ben-foster-1236363060\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sydney Sweeney-led Christy<\/a>, another awards player starring a high-profile actress, may not crack the top 10. The good news: Similar to Lawrence in Die My Love, Critics have praised Sweeney\u2019s performance, even if they have issues with the movie itself. Christy received a solid B+ CinemaScore and solid reviews. Based on a true story, Sweeney transformed her body to play Christy Martin, who helped legitimize women\u2019s boxing. The biopic stars Ben Foster as the trainer who becomes her abusive husband.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNeon is opening acclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/sentimental-value-review-renate-reinsve-joachim-trier-1236223376\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Swedish drama Sentimental Value<\/a> \u2014 one of several awards contenders it has in the mix this year \u2014 in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles this weekend. Early returns suggest it could post an impressive per-location average of $50,000 or thereabouts, one of the best of the year.
