(File photo courtesy of OnScene.TV)<\/p>\n<p>Police arrested\u00a0nine motorists on suspicion of driving under the influence at a checkpoint in Pacific Beach.<\/p>\n<p>Officers and deputies from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/police\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego Police Department<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sdsheriff.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">San Diego County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/police.ucsd.edu\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UC San Diego Police Department<\/a> conducted the DUI\/driver\u2019s license checkpoint in the 2400 block of Grand Avenue. It ended at 2:30 a.m. Friday. after beginning late Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Of the 944 vehicles that drove through the checkpoint, 589 vehicles were screened and 22 drivers were evaluated, police said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the nine DUI arrests, one driver was cited or arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle without a license or while it was suspended or revoked. Ten vehicles were impounded, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Police said checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity to deter drunk and drugged driving.<\/p>\n<p>The effort was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n<p>READ NEXT<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A sign at a San Diego County DUI checkpoint.
