After firing coach Brian Kelly midway through his fourth season, LSU is heading to face No. 4 Alabama with aspirations of disrupting what is becoming a storybook season for the Crimson Tide. Bama is in pole position to reach the SEC Championship Game and has an inside track to receive a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff after missing out on the 12-team field last season in coach Kalen DeBoer’s first year.<\/p>\n
Given where Alabama and LSU stood after Week 1, taking stock of their situations entering their Week 11 matchup is a bit jarring. The Tigers rose all the way to No. 3 in the AP Top 25 following a Week 1 win at Clemson. But a 2-3 start to SEC play was enough to get Kelly canned, especially after a listless second-half performance in a loss to Texas A&M that effectively ended LSU’s CFP hopes.<\/p>\n
Alabama, by contrast, fell to No. 21 in the AP poll with a stunning Week 1 loss at Florida State. But with quarterback Ty Simpson emerging as a top Heisman Trophy contender, the Crimson Tide have rebounded magnificently to enter the season’s home stretch in great shape.<\/p>\n
