In all, about 3% of flights departing from O\u2019Hare were canceled and 3% of flights from Midway as of Saturday afternoon, according to FlightAware, a website that tracks flight disruptions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These numbers are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2025\/11\/07\/ohare-midway-faa-flight-reduction\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">similar to Friday<\/a>, the first day of the order, when one employee described O\u2019Hare\u2019s Terminal 2 as a \u201cghost town.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, airlines canceled more than 1,000 flights Saturday, avoiding widespread disruptions but deepening the impact of what is now the country\u2019s longest government shutdown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If the shutdown continues, the number of flight cancellations is expected to climb over the next week. The FAA has said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/2025\/11\/06\/ohare-midway-faa-flight-reductions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reductions affecting commercial airlines<\/a> would start at 4% of flights at 40 targeted airports \u2014 which includes O\u2019Hare and Midway \u2014 before climbing to 10%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that even more flight cuts might be needed if more air traffic controllers are off the job.
