At least until that mark was shattered during Saturday night’s Division II title game between Vincent Memorial and Imperial High School.

The two schools combined to score 74 points, with Vincent Memorial narrowly outlasting Imperial 40-34, claiming the programs’ first section title.

“I was just playing with a lot of confidence tonight. We just made things happen,” said Vincent Memorial quarterback Azul Trujillo.

Trujillo threw for six touchdowns in the win. That’s tied for the third-most touchdown passes in a single game in CIF flag football history.

Trujillo’s biggest throw of the night came with under three minutes to play in the fourth quarter. On a second and ten from the 20-yard line, she hit wide receiver Jessica Manriquez for a game-winning 20-yard touchdown pass. It was Manriquez’s fourth receiving touchdown of the night.

“We saw that they had the safety on her side, so at the last minute we motioned Jessica over to get her singled up,” said Vincent Memorial coach Ivan Mendez. “She ran a great route, and Azul threw a great ball. Whenever they played man, I told Jessica do whatever she wants ”

Torrey Pines Captures DI Title

In both 2023 and 2024, the Falcons made appearances in the Division I Championship game, only to fall in both previous bouts.

Playing in their third straight title game, Torrey Pines finally exercised their demons, defeating Westview 20-13 to earn the program’s first Division I section title.

“Definitely a bit of a revenge tour,” said Torrey Pines coach Ryland Wickman, “The girls just played hard. Tonight, they finished it. This is just an amazing team and an amazing group.”

Torrey Pines’ victory was earned on the backs of its defense. The Falcons came away with two key fourth-quarter takeaways.

With 4:14 to play, Torrey Pines senior safety Kate Flynn turned in a diving interception, setting the Falcons offense up in plus field position.

Three plays later on the ensuing possession, quarterback Izzie Dieter hit Alexa Avila for a 10-yard TD pass, pushing Torrey Pines ahead 20-13.

To seal the game, Flynn turned in her second interception of the night with 1:05 to play.

“I tend to always try and read to the quarterback’s eyes,” Flynn said. “Our coaches also did a great job.”

Mira Mesa blows out Brawley to claim CIF DIII title

On the season’s biggest stage, Mira Mesa’s Vyanna Ta played her best game of the year. The quarterback threw for four touchdowns to lead the Marauders to a 25-0 victory over Brawley in the Division III section championship game.

“Pre-snap, I was just reading their defense, and I just took what they were giving me,” Ta said. “I trusted myself and my receivers to get the ball there on time.”

Olivia Peralta was Ta’s favorite target of the day, as the sophomore hauled in two touchdowns in the win. The first was a 15-yard pitch and catch to open the scoring and hand Mira Mesa an early 6-0 advantage. The second was an excellent leaping grab in the back corner of the end zone to push the lead to 25-0.

Peralta’s big game extended to the defensive side of the ball as she tallied two interceptions.

“Olivia attacks the ball, and she knows where to find space. She plays fast and plays very confidently. She showed up everywhere today,” said Mira Mesa coach Eric Trieu.

Late scores push Patrick Henry to CIF DIV title

Patrick Henry’s stars led their team to a 25-20 win over Mt. Carmel in the Division 4 title game.

“To see this group’s growth, it’s amazing. I am really proud of them,” said Patrick Henry coach Alona Harper.

Senior captain Ayla-Grace Collins hauled in two touchdown passes on the afternoon, including what proved to be the game winner on a fourth and goal from the Mt. Carmel one yard line to put the Patriots ahead 25-13 with 1:38 to play.

“Before that play I told Lexi (Raymond) I am going to be in that far corner,” said Patrick Henry’s Ayla-Grace Collins, “We knew that touchdown was going to seal the win. The whole team did a great job of staying composed.”

Patrick Henry’s young guns also showed up in a big way. Olive Murillo scored twice, the latter of which was a 50-yard punt return touchdown.

“Olive plays like she’s been there before. She’s does everything we ask of her. She’s very coachable.” Harper said.

Olympian tops Canyon Crest in CIF DV Final, Wins second straight CIF Title

Led by a three-touchdown effort from Aubrey Tibayan, Olympian High School cruised to a 25-12 victory over Canyon Crest Academy in the Division V championship game, the program’s second consecutive section title.

“We’ve kind of built a legacy,” said Olympian coach Michael Christensen. “It’s a testament to our team. Everyone has stepped up and fought for each other.”

After trailing 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, Olympian responded by scoring 25 unanswered points over the game’s final three quarters. That included a pair of six-yard rushing touchdowns from Tibayan to give Olympian a 12-6 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Tibayan got involved in the passing game, hitting Sophia Ramirez in stride for a 39-yard touchdown.

“She is one of the best in the county, and everyone knows it,” Christensen said.

The most combined points ever scored in a CIF San Diego Section flag football championship game was 63.…

[5134
5229,1582,276,3102,1370,3549,7264,62,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
0":"post-366095","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-diego","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-ca","10":"tag-california","11":"tag-high-school-sports","12":"tag-latest-headlines","13":"tag-san-diego","14":"tag-sandiego","15":"tag-sports","16":"tag-united-states","17":"tag-united-states-of-america","18":"tag-unitedstates","19":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","20":"tag-us","21":"tag-usa
["GET
