Andr\u00e9 3000 and Big Boi\u2019s impact on how stories can be told in hip-hop \u2014 and the soundscape of funk, soul, and rock their narratives were set against \u2014 has made them one of music\u2019s most influential acts. Their lasting impact took centerstage at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/doja-cat-vie-review-1235436239\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Doja Cat<\/a>, Killer Mike, J.I.D, Tyler, the Creator, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/janelle-monae-the-age-of-pleasure-album-interview-1234736254\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Janelle Mon\u00e1e<\/a> and Sleepy Brown joined Big Boi for a medley of the duo\u2019s greatest hits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBig Boi, the rapper born Antwan Andr\u00e9 Patton, began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/outkast\/\" id=\"auto-tag_outkast\" data-tag=\"outkast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Outkast<\/a>\u2018s acceptance speech, after the pair determined who would speak first with three rounds of rock-paper-scissors live on stage. It\u2019s the family, and this is my family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s the wives, it\u2019s the girlfriends, it\u2019s the girl you broke up with that pissed you off and made you write a song,\u201d Andr\u00e9 continued. \u201cAll of that is important \u2026 It has a lot to do with the bands that were out at the same time that influenced us, all the rappers that were out, from Busta Rhymes to Missy [Elliot] to Nas to Wu-Tang and then even before, we got Kilo [Ali], we got Raheem the Dream. We were watching dancers in Atlanta. Those were our heroes growing up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn the middle of the deep intimacy of his speech, during which Big Boi lovingly pulled fur from his fluffy coat out out of Andr\u00e9\u2019s beard, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/history-of-flute-in-hip-hop-rock-andre-3000-1234881202\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flute-playing<\/a> OutKast member fought back tears while referencing fellow 2025 inductee Jack White. \u201cMan, he\u2019s one of my favorites. Man, we love you \u2026 He said something about little rooms, and we started\u2026\u201d Andr\u00e9 3000 said before choking up. \u201cGreat things start in little rooms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWith that, Big Boi and the newly Grammy-nominated Atlanta rapper J.I.D. opened the set with \u201cATLiens\u201d before tossing it over to Doja Cat for \u201cMs. Jackson.\u201d Doja sang Andr\u00e9 3000\u2019s bridge<strong> <\/strong>before breaking into a choppy performance of his rap verse, but Tyler, the Creator picked it up from there, bursting onto the stage with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-lists\/best-songs-of-the-21st-century-1235410452\/outkast-b-o-b-bombs-over-baghdad-1235415790\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)<\/a>.\u201d Fittingly, Janelle Mon\u00e1e was assigned the true-classic single \u201cHey Ya!\u201d Monae blazed through the song with some theatrical support from a crew of dancers. For the final song in the set, Killer Mike joined Doja Cat, J.I.D., Tyler, the Creator, Sleepy Brown, Mon\u00e1e and Big Boi for \u201cThe Whole World.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOutKast received a sprawling introduction from Donald Glover, who grew up listening to OutKast in Atlanta before infusing the group\u2019s influence into his work as Childish Gambino. \u201cBig Boi and Andr\u00e9, I want to personally, thank you. Around the time Speakerboxxx\/The Love Below came out, I wrote a letter from college to my brother, and I said, \u2018I had a dream that we wrote a show together,&#8217;\u201d said Glover, foreshadowing his hit show <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/atlanta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Atlanta<\/a>. \u201cThank you for showing me that brothers may not always see eye to eye and their philosophies or styles, but they need each other in a world that would rather see them both fail together. \u2026 Atlanta is not the music Mecca it has become without you. There is no Childish Gambino without you. Their debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik arrived in 1994, the start of an unrivaled run of records that included ATLiens, Aquemini, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/stankonia-201676\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stankonia<\/a>, and Speakerboxxx\/The Love Below. OutKast won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards in 2004 for Speakerboxxx\/The Love Below.
