SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Nearly three years after 80-year-old Larry Brister was attacked, carjacked, and later died from his injuries<\/a>, his family says they\u2019re still waiting for justice \u2014 and for answers.<\/p>\n

In February 2023, Brister went out for a quick dinner run when, according to San Antonio police, he was beaten, dragged, and left for dead.<\/p>\n

Photos of his injuries were so severe that his family says they\u2019ve never been able to forget what happened.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s frustrating\u2026 he was murdered\u2026 and I just don\u2019t understand,\u201d said Brister\u2019s wife, Sandra Brister.<\/p>\n

His daughter, Mandy, said the moment she saw him after the attack is something she\u2019ll never get out of her mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cI fainted when I saw him\u2026 it was horrible, absolutely horrible,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Brister survived for five months after the assault before succumbing to his injuries.<\/p>\n

Inside the Brister home, his favorite leather recliner \u2014 the chair where he used to spend evenings with his family \u2014 has remained untouched since his death.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo one will sit in his chair,\u201d Sandra said. \u201cIt\u2019s his spot.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family says the emotional toll has been compounded by repeated delays in the criminal case.<\/p>\n

The three suspects \u2014 Gabriel Urbano, Miguel Acosta, and Zachariah Aguirre \u2014 were arrested in 2023. All were minors at the time but have since turned 18.<\/p>\n

Urbano and Acosta are charged with murder and aggravated robbery, while Aguirre faces a murder charge.<\/p>\n

According to the Brister family, hearings and trial dates have been pushed back multiple times since the arrests.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were told at one point we would start a trial at the beginning of 2024,\u201d Sandra said. \u201cWe just want closure\u2026 and communication. I hope I\u2019m still alive when he\u2019s on trial.\u201d<\/p>\n

The family says they\u2019ve been told there could be movement in the case in early 2026, but they fear more delays are likely.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou took a wonderful father, grandfather, and husband away from us,\u201d Sandra said in a message to the suspects. \u201cLife has never been the same.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of November 2025, all three suspects remain in custody awaiting trial.<\/p>\n

According to an indictment obtained by KSAT, Acosta is accused of attacking Brister, taking control of his vehicle, and dragging him on the street, which caused serious bodily harm.<\/p>\n
