{"id":366859,"date":"2025-11-09T12:43:33","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T12:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/366859\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T12:43:33","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T12:43:33","slug":"over-100m-viridian-bond-measures-fails-unofficial-results-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/366859\/","title":{"rendered":"Over $100M Viridian bond measures fails, unofficial results shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Voters rejected two propositions that would have increased the Viridian Municipal Management District\u2019s ability to issue bonds for improvements, according to unofficial results Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>About 58% of voters rejected Proposition A, while over 60% rejected Proposition B, according to the Tarrant County Elections Administration.<\/p>\n<p>Some residents said a <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/10\/17\/early-voting-starts-oct-20-heres-what-arlington-voters-need-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent tax increase<\/a> and rising homeowners association fees led many to oppose the bond package.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re overwhelmed, and anything that looks like it\u2019s going to cause us long-term impact on our dollars, it\u2019s a very difficult decision to make,\u201d resident Alisa Franklin, 38, said.<\/p>\n<p>The bond election was floated in January after Viridian\u2019s developer requested that the municipal management district increase its bond capacity, according to the district\u2019s meeting minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals to do so were split into two propositions.<\/p>\n<p>Proposition A asked voters to authorize the district to issue bonds totaling more than $50 million for Viridian\u2019s water, sanitary sewer and drainage, and storm sewer systems.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Proposition B asked voters to authorize the district to issue bonds totaling more than $57 million for the repair, purchase, construction and maintenance of roads both inside and outside of Viridian.<\/p>\n<p>The two propositions would not have increased the taxes of Viridian homeowners.<\/p>\n<p>One of the larger issues for the wider community with the propositions was the amount of money that the district hoped to allocate, Franklin said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat number took everyone by surprise,\u201d Franklin said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The district still has the capacity to issue bonds for Viridian\u2019s roads and water systems, though it is much smaller without the propositions.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The district has about $4.8 million in bonds for water systems it can issue and $42 million in bonds for roads it can issue from a 2008 election, according to the district\u2019s election notice.<\/p>\n<p>H-E-B ISD tax increase and Texas Senate District 9<\/p>\n<p>While in Arlington, Viridian residents live within the Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/11\/04\/northwest-heb-isds-seek-3-cent-tax-rate-boost-to-keep-teacher-pay-class-sizes-steady-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A 3-cent tax rate increase for HEB schools was approved<\/a>, with 51% of voters supporting the increase, according to unofficial results.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Texas Senate District 9, which includes parts of Arlington, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/11\/04\/tarrant-voters-weigh-2-republicans-1-democrat-for-texas-senate-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">heads to a runoff between Democrat Taylor Rehmet and Republican Leigh Wambsganss<\/a>, according to the early returns.
