\n\tNo stranger to building a bone-chilling horror, Ari Aster<\/a> is sharing one of his greatest fears for Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Eddington<\/a> writer\/director recently admitted he has \u201ca lot of fear\u201d regarding the growing use of AI<\/a> in the industry and how some treat it \u201cas a god,\u201d knowing \u201cwe have no say\u201d in how the technology<\/a> is implemented as it continues to evolve.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s obviously already too late. We\u2019re in a race now,\u201d he told Letterboxd<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s how the history of technological innovation has worked: If we can, we will. I have larger questions, you know? What did Marshall McLuhan say: \u2018Man is the sex organ of the machine world,\u2019 right? Is this technology an extension of us, are we extensions of this technology, or are we here to usher it into being?<\/p>\n

\n\tAster added, \u201cIf you talk to these engineers and the people ushering this AI in, they don\u2019t talk about AI as this great new medium; they don\u2019t even talk about it as technology. They talk about it as a god. They talk like disciples. They\u2019re very worshipful of this thing. Whatever space there was between our lived reality and this imaginal reality\u2014that\u2019s disappearing, and we\u2019re merging, and that\u2019s very frightening.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith the Senate recently striking a provision<\/a> in Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s One Big Beautiful Bill<\/a>, which would have barred states from regulating AI<\/a> for the next decade, some in Hollywood are embracing the technology and attempting to set a standard of \u201cclean AI<\/a>\u201d use.<\/p>\n

\n\tAster explained that \u201cthe most uncanny thing\u201d about AI\u2019s capabilities \u201cis that it\u2019s less uncanny than I want it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI see AI-generated videos, and they look like life; they just look real,\u201d Aster continued. \u201cIt goes back to that human capacity for adaptation. The weirder things get, and the longer we live in them, the more normal they become. But something huge is happening right now, and we have no say in it. So, here we go. I can\u2019t believe we\u2019re actually going to live through this and see what happens.
