A top New York City rabbi has issued a chilling now-viral warning<\/a> after Zohran Mamdani\u2019s mayoral win: The pol\u2019s positions on Israel <\/a>may \u201cseverely threaten Jewish safety everywhere in the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch delivered his blistering take<\/a> on the radical extremist in a fiery sermon at his liberal Stephen Wise Free Synagogue on the Upper West Side on Friday.<\/p>\n

Hirsch claimed Mamdani\u2019s \u201copposition to Israel is existential.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe believes that Israel has no right to exist at all \u2014 as a Jewish state in any territory,\u2019\u2019 the Manhattan rabbi said.<\/p>\n

Hirsch, president of the New York Board of Rabbis, explained that he and other \u201cprominent and liberal\u201d rabbis went with \u201copen hearts and open minds\u201d to a one-hour meeting with the then-candidate in August.<\/p>\n

He said they left horrified by his dangerous positions on Israel.<\/p>\n

Throughout the meeting, the rabbis\u2019 moods \u201csteadily darkened,\u201d Hirsch said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd our fears increased.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch said that Mamdani\u2019s \u201copposition to Israel is existential.\u201d Stephen Wise Free Synagogue<\/p>\n

Mamdani, who founded a controversial Students for Justice in Palestine chapter while in college, is a \u201cdogmatic opponent\u201d to the Zionist ideal, Hirsch said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is not simply a critic of Israel,\u201d said the rabbi, who moved to Israel as a teen and served in the Israel Defense Force.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe does not believe in coexistence\u201d or \u201ctwo states for two peoples.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite relentless accusations of antisemitism, Mamdani, a 34-year-old Muslim immigrant and supporter of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement, captured one-third of Jewish voters in the city to win the mayor\u2019s race last week, according to exit polls.<\/p>\n

The mayor-elect has repeatedly refused to condemn the phrase \u201cGlobalize the intifada,\u201d widely seen as a call to violence, and espouses extremist positions indistinguishable from Israel\u2019s \u201cmost implacable foes,\u201d according to the rabbi.<\/p>\n

Hirsch compared the dangerous ideology to that of terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah and their supporter Iran.<\/p>\n

During the religious leaders\u2019 meeting with Mamdani in August, security was the focus as the group expressed the \u201cfears of New York Jews\u201d if he were elected.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The rabbi warned that a phalanx of security alone can\u2019t protect the Jewish community \u2014 only a safe environment can.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could put 50 police officers outside this building,\u2019\u2019 Hirsch told his congregants. \u201cIf the overall atmosphere is hostile to Jews, it will severely threaten Jewish safety everywhere in the city every day.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd history has proven conclusively that what starts with Jews never ends with Jews. The city itself will become much nastier and much more violent,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n

Hirsch claimed that Mamdani does not believe in \u201ccoexistence\u201d in Israel. AP<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd that is the main threat from the ideologically driven anti-Zionism of Zohran Mamdani.\u201d<\/p>\n

Congregant Ronen Schwartzman told The Post on Sunday that he\u2019s \u201cproud\u201d of his rabbi for \u201cbeing vocal when you need it.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s very pro-Israel and not afraid to speak up \u2014 a big contrast to the Reform movement, who don\u2019t always support\u201d the Jewish state,\u2019\u2019 the man said.<\/p>\n

Some city Jewish activists championed the \u201cprogressive\u201d rabbi\u2019s speech<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is unafraid to speak the truth,\u201d said Israel activist Lizzy Savetsky on social media. \u201cWe need more Jewish leaders like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mamdan\u2019s camp did not immediately respond to a Post request for comment.<\/p>\n
