{"id":368274,"date":"2025-11-10T03:08:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T03:08:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/368274\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T03:08:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T03:08:15","slug":"governor-greg-abbott-announces-his-4th-term-reelection-bid-in-houston","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/368274\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Greg Abbott announces his 4th term reelection bid in Houston"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>HOUSTON<\/strong> \u2013 Texas Governor Greg Abbott is officially running for a historic fourth term, announcing his reelection bid during a rally in Houston\u2019s Fifth Ward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Abbott told supporters it felt like a \u201chomecoming\u201d to launch his campaign in Houston the city where his wife, Cecilia, was born and where he first ran for public office. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe won Harris County then, and we are going to win Harris County again this election,\u201d Abbott said to cheers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The governor used the campaign kickoff to highlight what he called Texas\u2019 \u201crecord-breaking growth\u201d under his leadership, while pledging to continue efforts to lower costs for Texas families: focusing on childcare, healthcare, housing, and especially property taxes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Property Taxes Take Center Stage<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Abbott made property tax reform one of the central themes of his speech, promising to give Texans more control over how much they pay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">He praised voters for recently approving seven constitutional amendments aimed at reducing property taxes statewide, noting that \u201cmore than half of all seniors in Texas will pay zero dollars on their school district property taxes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">But Abbott said more work remains to \u201cdrive a stake through the heart of local property tax hikes.\u201d He called for several sweeping changes, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Requiring two-thirds voter approval for any local property tax increase.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Allowing voters to \u201croll back\u201d tax rates.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Limiting property appraisals to once every five years and cutting the appraisal cap from 10% to 3%.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Allowing Texans to vote on a constitutional amendment to abolish school property taxes entirely.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThe state of Texas doesn\u2019t impose property taxes, local governments do,\u201d Abbott said. \u201cIt\u2019s time to turn the tables and put the power back with the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Lowering Costs for Families<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Abbott also outlined efforts to lower the overall cost of living in Texas. He said his administration has cut \u201chundreds of unnecessary regulations\u201d to make childcare more affordable and capped the cost of insulin while investing billions in mental health and rural healthcare.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">On housing, Abbott said Texas ranks first in the nation for new home construction a factor he says will help \u201cdrive down housing costs\u201d statewide. \u201cWe made it easier and cheaper to build more homes and apartments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Education and School Choice<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Education was another key theme in Abbott\u2019s address. He touted the expansion of school choice in Texas, saying the state\u2019s new program empowers parents \u201cto choose the education pathway that is best for their child.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Abbott said the goal is not just more choice, but better results across the board. \u201cChoice equals competition,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd competition will make all schools better public, private, charter, and homeschool.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Border Security and Law Enforcement<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Abbott reiterated his administration\u2019s hardline stance on border security, calling Texas \u201cthe only state in American history to build our own border wall.\u201d He said the state has deployed thousands of National Guard members and DPS troopers to the border, leading to \u201can 85% decline in illegal immigration\u201d and a \u201c40% decrease in fentanyl deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">He also defended state laws aimed at preventing cities from defunding police and keeping violent offenders behind bars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Throughout his speech, Abbott drew contrasts between Texas and states with Democratic governors, warning that Democrats are hoping to flip the state in 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cAll it takes is one election,\u201d Abbott said. \u201cGovernment can crush your economy, destroy your jobs, and increase your taxes. Democrats want that election to be this election.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">He closed his remarks with a rallying cry: \u201cThis is Texas. You cannot buy us. You cannot beat us. We will see you at the ballot box and we will win. Let\u2019s keep Texas, Texas. Let\u2019s roll.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Several Democrats have already announced plans to run for governor, and more are expected before the December 2026 filing deadline.
