Jeremy Renner, a star in the \u201cAvengers\u201d universe and the HBO series \u201cMayor of Kingstown,\u201d is facing allegations of misconduct from filmmaker Yi Zhou.<\/p>\n
In an extensive series of posts on Instagram <\/a> last week Zhou alleges that beginning in June Renner sent \u201ca string of unwanted \/ unsolicited pornographic images.\u201d After a relationship over calls and text, according to Zhou, \u201cThe first physical encounter was not consensual. \u2026 Later interactions became consensual, yet the earlier incident remained deeply distressing.\u201d Another post claims that Renner \u201cthreatened to call immigration\/ICE on me,\u201d which left her \u201cshocked and frightened.\u201d <\/p>\n A representative for Renner responded to a request for comment Sunday by saying, \u201cThe accusations being made by this individual are totally inaccurate and untrue.\u201d<\/p>\n Many of Zhou\u2019s Instagram posts, which include images of supposed messages between the two of them and what appear to be candid, personal photos of the actor, added the hashtag \u201c#CancelJeremyRenner.\u201d<\/p>\n Zhou, born in China and based in Los Angeles, has directed two films, the documentary \u201cMasters of Cinema: Chronicles of Disney\u201d and the animated \u201cStardust Future,\u201d which she says Renner participated in and then refused to promote.<\/p>\n People<\/a> reported that Renner\u2019s attorney, Marty Singer<\/a>, sent Zhou a cease-and-desist letter to prevent further \u201csalacious lies\u201d on Friday. A message to Singer\u2019s office Sunday was not immediately returned.<\/p>\n In one of her posts, Zhou wrote of her motivation for speaking out. \u201cMy intention is not retaliation but transparency,\u201d she said. \u201cI have the right to protect my professional reputation, to set boundaries, and to correct misinformation when selective reporting distorts the facts.\u201d She posted a cease-and-desist letter she purportedly emailed to Renner on Instagram asking him to stop \u201cany form of verbal abuse, yelling or intimidation.\u201d<\/p>\n In a 2025 interview with the Guardian <\/a>promoting his memoir \u201cMy Last Breath,\u201d which chronicles the 2023 accident involving an industrial snowcat that nearly killed him, Renner denied previous allegations of misconduct \u2014 substance abuse and a verbal threat \u2014 that came out in a custody dispute<\/a> with his ex-wife Sonni Pacheco over their daughter, Ava.<\/p>\n \u201cBeing accused of things you\u2019ve not done, right? That doesn\u2019t feel good to anybody,\u201d Renner said. \u201cIt certainly doesn\u2019t feel good when you\u2019re a celebrity and it\u2019s known to everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
