His name has consistently surfaced whenever major clubs seek a manager known for structure, intensity and player development, qualities that would fit well at Celtic.

The speculation intensified after reports in Scotland and Norway suggested that Celtic were monitoring Knutsen closely, impressed by his continued achievements with Glimt. However, speaking after the weekend’s win, the 57-year-old gave a typically calm and grounded response when asked about the Celtic links.

He said: (TV2), “Nothing is certain in life.

“I am here now and I am happy, and then we can enjoy a nice football match. It is hopeless to answer about other club.

“I answer as I always do – (if I leave) it should be something that is more exciting than Glimt.”

Knutsen’s response was calm and typical of him. He’s never one to add fuel to rumours, always keeping the focus on his team and the football that’s made Bodø/Glimt one of Europe’s most respected smaller clubs.

His final comment said a lot without giving much away. He’s clearly proud of what he’s built in Norway and made it clear that only something truly special would make him consider leaving. That message will give Celtic plenty to think about as they decide what direction to take next.

Soccer Football – Europa League – Quarter Final – Second Leg – Lazio v Bodo/Glimt – Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Italy – April 17, 2025 Bodo/Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen celebrates after winning the penalty shootout REUTERS/Alberto Lingria

For now, Knutsen looks fully focused on Glimt’s season, but it’s clear he’ll stay on Celtic’s radar. His success, calm personality, and attacking style all fit the kind of manager the club could be looking for.

He didn’t close the door completely, though. The way he spoke suggested he’s happy where he is, but if the right opportunity came along, one that genuinely excites him, he might just listen.
