{"id":368518,"date":"2025-11-10T05:37:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T05:37:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/368518\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T05:37:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T05:37:06","slug":"san-antonio-social-media-influencers-resurrect-hashtag-to-fill-food-pantries-amid-government-shutdown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/368518\/","title":{"rendered":"San Antonio social media influencers resurrect hashtag to fill food pantries amid government shutdown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 San Antonio \u201cfoodies\u201d brought back a hashtag to do some good in their community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Gabrielle Gonzales, known online as \u2018Siempre San Antonio,\u2019 challenged people on social media to the #FoodiesFillingPantries challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe have a platform and we should be using our platform for the good of our community,\u201d Gonzalez said. \u201cSo I decided, let me do a little challenge and get my foodie friends involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Food influencers will tag each other on social media with the hashtag #FoodiesFillingPantries. It challenges them to go to the store, fill up a grocery cart and then take those items and fill up a food pantry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/11\/05\/fill-the-truck-food-drive-from-ksat-community-texas-eats-seeks-community-support-amid-snap-funding-pause\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2025\/11\/05\/fill-the-truck-food-drive-from-ksat-community-texas-eats-seeks-community-support-amid-snap-funding-pause\/\"><b>&gt;&gt; HOW TO DONATE: KSAT Community and Texas Eats\u2019 \u201cFill The Truck\u201d food drive<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cThanks to her list, I was able to find a pantry near my home and I went and I filled up the pantry,\u201d Rick Rodriguez said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Rodriguez runs the Instagram account \u2018Random Acts of Snacks\u2019. He was challenged to participate in the challenge this year and said it felt great to give back to the community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s been some tough times right now for some folks,\u201d Rodriguez said. \u201cIt was bare, so I was glad to help. I\u2019m hearing that from the other foodies as well, that they\u2019re seeing the same but they\u2019re happy to help and donate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The food pantries didn\u2019t have much in them on Sunday afternoon. The hashtag is coming back into the social media realm as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/11\/09\/trump-administration-demands-states-undo-full-snap-payouts-as-states-warn-of-catastrophic-impact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/11\/09\/trump-administration-demands-states-undo-full-snap-payouts-as-states-warn-of-catastrophic-impact\/\">SNAP benefits did not arrive on time<\/a> and federal employees were not getting paid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cFolks will sometimes put out calls [to fill the pantries], especially during the holidays, or especially when they hear about the shutdown, knowing that folks are gonna not have their SNAP benefits,\u201d Sylvia Mendoza said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Mendoza manages one of the food pantries in San Antonio. She said she loves when people donate because the community can rely on each other when people are in need.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cPeople will take it upon themselves to organize, to bring things and to fill the pantry and it\u2019s just the best thing to know that that\u2019s how people from San Antonio are,\u201d Mendoza said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The goal is to start with food influencers and hopefully encourage everyone in the community who can give back, to fill up a pantry when they can too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cIf it\u2019s just a couple of bags of beans, go for it,\u201d Gonzalez said. \u201cThat will help a family in need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>Read also:<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2025 by KSAT &#8211; All rights reserved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"SAN ANTONIO \u2013 San Antonio \u201cfoodies\u201d brought back a hashtag to do some good in their community.
