Releasing in 2026, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping<\/strong><\/a> adapts the novel of the same name, which tells the story of a young Haymitch Abernathy during the 50th Hunger Games. Its cast includes Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Elle Fanning, Billy Porter, Glenn Close, and Ralph Fiennes, among others. Sunrise on the Reaping is also directed by franchise veteran Francis Lawrence from a screenplay by Oscar-nominated writer Billy Ray.<\/p>\n

Set 24 years prior to the events of The Hunger Games, it serves as a prequel to the original quadrilogy and a sequel to 2023’s The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. As such, it features younger versions of many of the adult characters from The Hunger Games. This includes Effie Trinket, who was played by Elizabeth Banks in the original films and will be played by Fanning in Sunrise on the Reaping.<\/p>\n

While the film’s theatrical debut is over a year away, Fanning recently shared an exciting update. The actress told Collider<\/a>: “Well, I’m done filming it, so that’s done.” Overall production on Sunrise on the Reaping has not yet wrapped, but it is expected to conclude this month.<\/p>\n

“Effie’s on the screen, which is super cool,” Fanning continued. She then added that “the clothes are great.” Effie as a character is known for her eccentric style, indicative of her status as a citizen of the grotesquely wealthy Capitol, and Banks’ outfits in the film series are iconic, with several being designer pieces.<\/p>\n

Switching gears, Fanning praised the prior films and how Effie was portrayed. “I love what Elizabeth Banks did so much, so I’m like, you know, bow down to her!” the Predator: Badlands star stated. “I hope I can make the fans proud.” Calling the production “fun,” she also praised the film’s “amazing” director Francis Lawrence and “great” cast.<\/p>\n

Fanning isn’t the only cast member so far to discuss the hotly anticipated prequel<\/a>. Grace shared her reaction with ScreenRant, stating: “You always want to do your best to bring everything to life for the fans, and do everything that they want to see.” While details on how book-accurate the film will be are scarce, both Fanning and Grace signaled a desire to make fans happy. <\/p>\n
