Actress Sally Kirkland<\/a> has been hospitalized in Southern California, being placed in hospice at a hospital in Palm Springs, TMZ reports<\/a>. She is 84 years old.<\/p>\n

This comes after the Golden Globe <\/a>winner <\/a>was diagnosed with dementia last year, her representative Michael Greene\u00a0told the outlet, adding that her former student and friend\u00a0Cody Galloway is by her side.<\/p>\n

A GoFundMe page<\/a> was started for Kirkland in November 2024 by her friends to help her on her health journey after she \u201cfractured her four bones in her neck, right wrist, and her left hip,\u201d adding that, \u201cwhile recovering, she developed two separate life-threatening infections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her friends added that they were asking for support as Kirkland couldn\u2019t afford her care due to \u201cbad advice from a financial advisor-business manager in 2007 during the market crash, Sally lost the bulk of her investments and the money she made during the peak of her career.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Friday, Nov. 7, her friends provided an update on the GoFundMe about Kirkland\u2019s condition. <\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for all your love and support. Sally is grateful for your kindness and love. Sally is on hospice now and is resting comfortably. Please hold and send the light for Sally,\u201d they wrote. <\/p>\n

This came after they provided an update just over a month ago that she had \u201cer a month after organizers shared that the 84-year-old actress had \u201ca challenging few months.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHi: Sally sends her love to everyone. It has been a challenging few months for Sally as her health continues to struggle,\u201d the\u00a0update on October\u00a02 said. \u201cShe had a fall in the shower, when she was left unattended, injuring her ribs and foot, along with cuts and bruises. Sally is now receiving 24\/7 care in a specialized facility that is providing wonderful safety and care. We are continuing to raise money to cover the gaps between income and care costs. Thank you for all the love, support, and care for Sally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Singer and actress Simonna posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, after hearing the news. <\/p>\n

The two shared the screen in the 2019 short film\u00a0\u201cRobot Romance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sally Kirkland Won Best Actress Award at 1988 Golden Globes<\/p>\n

In 1988, Kirkland took home a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture \u2013 Drama\u00a0for her role in the 1987 movie, \u201cAnna.\u201d She also won the Best Actress award at the 13th Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, as well as the Best Female Lead award at the 3rd Independent Spirit Awards, plus a nomination at the Academy Award for Best Actress for this role. <\/p>\n

Kirkland earned a second Golden Globe nomination for her role in \u201cThe Haunted\u201d (1991).<\/p>\n

Along with \u201cAnna,\u201d Kirkland is well known for her roles in \u201cThe Sting,\u201d \u201cBest of the Best,\u201d \u201cJFK,\u201d and \u201cBruce Almighty.<\/p>\n
