\n\tLast Week Tonight<\/a> honored its native New York City<\/a> as John Oliver<\/a> conducted an audit of Eric Adams<\/a>\u2018s scandal-ridden mayoralty \u2014 and welcomed recently minted mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani<\/a>, an introduction that led to resounding cheers from the live audience.<\/p>\n

\n\tAs Oliver discussed Mamdani\u2019s triumphant speech \u2014 which he characterized as an \u201centirely earned victory lap\u201d and \u201cpretty satisfying\u201d \u2014 he noted that some, such as CNN\u2019s Van Jones, critiqued the words as \u201csharp\u201d and a \u201ccharacter switch.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe just weathered one of the most Islamophobic campaigns in recent memory,\u201d the late-night host countered. \u201c\u2018I wish Andrew Cuomo only the best in private live\u2019 is a frankly superhuman level of grace to extend to a man who has yet to pronounce your name correctly once.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter concluding his story for the night \u2014 on how America\u2019s singular felony murder laws exacerbate mass incarceration \u2014 Oliver returned to the topic of his show\u2019s home city, delivering a eulogy of sorts for the outgoing Adams administration, scheduled to depart Jan. 1.<\/p>\n

\n\tCalling the leadup to the NYC mayoral election \u201ctruly insane from start to finish\u201d \u2014 as best exemplified by a viral debate question concerning parades<\/a> \u2014 Oliver mulled over the fact that one local news segment couldn\u2019t locate a single resident to express disappointment in Adams dropping out of the race.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey couldn\u2019t find anyone! This city has 8 million people. I\u2019m a 1000% sure I could find someone who would vote for a pigeon fucking a bagel in Central Park, but no takers for Eric Adams \u2014 that has got to hurt,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn offering \u201cone last look at Eric Adams because he is a deeply weird man,\u201d the political comic paid homage to Adams\u2019s amusing flag-raising ceremonies, in which he has repeatedly stated that New York is the [insert given nation\u2019s capital city] of America<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThough Adams began as a popular candidate with an over 60% approval rating, his stats dropped over 40% in the span of two years. Oliver outlined \u201cthe true hallmark of the Adams administration was its constant scandals,\u201d going over a laundry list of corruption, bribery and conspiracy charges faced by a number of admin officials.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThis is a great city, but that is not because of you [Adams] and sometimes it is in active spite of you,\u201d Oliver concluded. \u201cYou know, if I could sum up Eric Adams\u2019s mayoralty in one word, it\u2019d probably be: New York, because this is a place where every day you wake up you can experience a plan<\/a>e<\/a> crashing into our Trade Center<\/a>, to a fake vegan<\/a>, non-Alabaman<\/a> leaving a ghost-filled Gracie Mansion<\/a> to lecture all of us on family, business, public safety and, of course, clitoral stimulation<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAnd though Oliver made sure to include the \u201csoundbite bonanza\u201d that was Republican Curtis Sliwa\u2019s campaign \u2014 from his anecdotes about his historical clashes with organized crime to his shots at Andrew Cuomo \u2014 the host did forget one gem from the Adams administration: his much-memed, bizarre anti-drug PSA video<\/a>.<\/p>\n
