Mark Hertzberg\/ZUMA Press Wire \/ SplashNews.com<\/p>\n<p>Chicago\u2019s two airports were also among those hit the hardest, with almost 300 flights in and out of Chicago O\u2019Hare scrapped and more than 100 in and out of\u00a0 Chicago Midway, the data shows.<\/p>\n<p>More than\u00a02,200\u00a0flights within, into or out of the US were also delayed early Monday.<\/p>\n<p>New York City\u2019s major airports, LaGuardia, Newark Liberty and JFK were also dealt serious blows.<\/p>\n<p>More than 120 flights in and out of\u00a0LaGuardia were canceled as of 9 a.m Monday, and almost 100 flights in and out of Newark and JFK were nixed.<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing travel nightmare comes a day after travelers experienced the worst day for air travel since the government shutdown on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 3,000 flights were canceled by US airlines Sunday and more than 10,800 were delayed.<\/p>\n<p>Monday marks the fourth day of the FAA\u2019s air traffic staffing reductions, where the agency has been forced to shed 10% of its workers across 40 high-volume airports.<\/p>\n<p>Air traffic controllers have been working without pay since Oct. 1,\u00a0compounding previously existing staffing shortages.<\/p>\n<p>The major delays are expected to continue and will likely cause a \u201csubstantial\u201d number of Americans to miss Thanksgiving with their families,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/09\/us-news\/transportation-secretary-warns-about-thanksgiving-air-travel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy<\/a>\u00a0warned on Sunday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing government shutdown has thrown air travel into chaos as it drags into its 41st day.
