{"id":369509,"date":"2025-11-10T16:10:23","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T16:10:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/369509\/"},"modified":"2025-11-10T16:10:23","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T16:10:23","slug":"arctic-blast-sweeps-across-parts-of-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/369509\/","title":{"rendered":"Arctic blast sweeps across parts of the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHICAGO (AP) \u2014 A blast of the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/winter-weather-snow-chicago-great-lakes-storm-34919c171b8ecebcad4ecab6708c0712\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">season\u2019s first frigid air<\/a> was bearing down on much of the U.S. on Monday, bringing the prospect of snow to parts of the country, and plunging temperatures in Florida \u2014 though it may not get cold enough there for iguanas to <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/florida-weather-f0f7265241c58833a7b469d88d31fa07\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tumble from the treetops.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>National Weather Service forecasters said frigid Arctic air will pour into the eastern two-thirds of the country, bringing with it the chance for record low temperatures in the U.S. Southeast, including all of Florida, where temperatures in parts of the state were near 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 degrees Celsius) just a day ago. <\/p>\n<p>The cold air will reach the Great Plains on Monday, bringing gusty wind and red flag warnings in the region, according to forecasters, and the Great Lakes and Appalachian Mountain regions would see 4 inches (10 centimeters) to 8 inches (20 centimeters).<\/p>\n<p>Around Lake Erie forecasters are warning about the prospect of <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/lake-effect-snow-great-lakes-4585da95b681455af10d2fe7df7c678a\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lake effect snow<\/a>, which occurs in relatively narrow bands that dump copious amounts of snow. It\u2019s a phenomenon that can drastically increase snowfall totals that could hit one area but miss another not far away untouched. <\/p>\n<p>In Florida forecasters say the wind chill will be in the 30s Fahrenheit (minus 1 degree Celsius). During previous cold periods, iguanas, an invasive reptile species, have gone into a sort of suspended animation and fallen to the ground when the temperatures dip below 40 degrees F (about 4 degrees C). Snow fell Sunday in Michigan\u2019s Upper Peninsula, where meteorologists warned of low visibility with up to a foot (30 centimeters) of snow by Monday. <\/p>\n<p>In Indiana, weather experts predicted up to 11 inches (28 centimeters) of snow and \u201cslippery surfaces\u201d for road travel. Up to 6 inches (15 centimeters) of snow were predicted in parts of Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPatchy blowing snow\u201d and wind chills hovering near zero were expected in portions of Minnesota, Nebraska and South Dakota.
