Among those on the list is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2021\/01\/15\/dallas-lawyer-sidney-powells-texas-roots-ambition-prestige-and-a-propensity-for-conspiracy-theories\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2021\/01\/15\/dallas-lawyer-sidney-powells-texas-roots-ambition-prestige-and-a-propensity-for-conspiracy-theories\/\">Sidney Powell<\/a>, a Dallas attorney and former key member of Trump\u2019s legal team. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Powell did not immediately respond to a message sent through her website or phone call Monday morning. <\/p>\n<p>Who is Sidney Powell?<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In 2020, Powell emerged as one of the most vocal Trump allies pushing baseless conspiracy theories that the election was rigged. One Trump campaign official told The Washington Post that Powell \u201cwas too crazy even for the president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In 2023, Powell was charged alongside Trump and 17 others with violating Georgia\u2019s anti-racketeering law. An indictment accused Powell of tampering with voting machines in a rural Georgia county and stealing data from a voting machine company. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Powell pleaded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2023\/10\/19\/sidney-powell-pleads-guilty-in-case-over-efforts-to-overturn-trumps-georgia-loss\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2023\/10\/19\/sidney-powell-pleads-guilty-in-case-over-efforts-to-overturn-trumps-georgia-loss\/\">guilty to six misdemeanors<\/a> of conspiring to intentionally interfere with the performance of election duties. As part of a deal, she is serving six years of probation, was fined $6,000 and was required to write an apology letter to Georgia and its residents. She also agreed to testify against her co-defendants at future trials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Presidential pardons apply only to federal crimes, so it has no effect on the Georgia case. She is originally from North Carolina but she served as an assistant U.S. attorney and appellate section chief in the Western and Northern Districts of Texas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In Western Texas, Powell was a prosecutor in the trial of American drug trafficker<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/crime\/2013\/02\/12\/hasse-murder-produces-echoes-of-a-federal-judge-s-assassination-in-texas-three-decades-ago\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/crime\/2013\/02\/12\/hasse-murder-produces-echoes-of-a-federal-judge-s-assassination-in-texas-three-decades-ago\/\"> Jimmy Chagra<\/a> for criminal enterprise violations. Among other crimes, Chagra was implicated in the 1979 assassination of U.S. District Judge John H. Wood Jr. in San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Powell established her law firm in Dallas in 1993, focusing on high-profile cases, including defending white-collar executives in the fallout from the collapse of Enron.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">In recent years, she attracted a following in conservative circles as she criticized as federal overreach in law enforcement. Her star turn came when she defended <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2017\/02\/15\/flynn-s-departure-close-to-unprecedented-but-here-are-other-white-house-aides-who-left-quickly\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/2017\/02\/15\/flynn-s-departure-close-to-unprecedented-but-here-are-other-white-house-aides-who-left-quickly\/\">Gen.
