Charli XCX<\/a> has shared the first of what will apparently be many original songs for Emerald Fennell\u2019s forthcoming Wuthering Heights<\/a> movie. \u201cHouse\u201d is a collaboration with composer and Velvet Underground<\/a> co-founder John Cale. The accompanying video was directed by Mitch Ryan<\/a>, who also helmed Charli XCX\u2019s belated \u201cParty 4 U<\/a>\u201d clip earlier this year. Watch it below.<\/p>\n

\u201cA few years ago I watched Todd Haynes’ documentary about The Velvet Underground,\u201d Charli XCX wrote in a note posted to X<\/a> last week. \u201cAs many of you know I\u2019m a huge fan of the band and was really taken by the documentary. One thing that stuck with me was how John Cale described a key sonic requirement of The Velvet Underground. That any song had to be both \u2018elegant and brutal.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cWhen the summer ended I was still ruminating on John\u2019s words. So I decided to reach out to him to get his opinion on the songs that his phrase had so deeply inspired, but also to see whether he might want to collaborate on any\u2026I sent him some songs and we started talking specifically about \u2018House.\u2019 We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do. And it was\u2026 well, it made me cry.\u201d Scroll down to read the whole thing.<\/p>\n

Since releasing her album Brat<\/a> last year, Charli XCX has become involved in several other film<\/a> projects<\/a>. She also pulled double duty as host and musical guest on an episode of Saturday Night Live<\/a>. John Cale shared his last studio album, Poptical Illusion<\/a>, in 2024 as well.<\/p>\n

Wuthering Heights hits theaters on Saturday, February 14, 2026. Fennell\u2019s adaptation of the famed Emily Bront\u00eb novel stars Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. The movie is scored by Anthony Willis, who also scored Fennell\u2019s first two features, 2020\u2019s Promising Young Woman and 2023\u2019s Saltburn.<\/p>\n
