(WEAU) &#8211; Governor Tony Evers says he will not take back November SNAP benefits that were paid out to 700,000 Wisconsinites late last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He made the comments during a visit to Wafer Food Pantry in La Crosse Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Wisconsin is one of multiple states in a back-and-forth legal battle with the Trump administration over food assistance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Tuesday marks two weeks since the first lawsuit was filed. Wisconsin is now part of two of them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">One to require the federal government to fully fund SNAP in November and another to stop states from being punished for paying out benefits this month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe judge said to the president, hey, by the way, this is wrong. You pay for the whole thing like they always do. The card should be 100% and that\u2019s exactly what we did and the fact that they\u2019re trying to claw that back, that\u2019s embarrassing,\u201d said Evers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Last week, the governor signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency and a period of abnormal economic disruption in the state of Wisconsin due to the ongoing federal government shutdown and a lapse in FoodShare benefits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WEAU.
