JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 A Jacksonville mother said her apartment complex is attempting to raise rent despite failing to address multiple issues in her unit at the Golden Shores of Jacksonville apartment complex.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like I\u2019m stuck here, and I want better for my kids and this is what it is,\u201d said Rhonda, who\u2019s family has lived in the complex for almost two years.<\/p>\n

Rhonda said there are several ongoing problems that have been ignored for months, like a large hole under the kitchen sink, through which light from an adjacent unit is visible, an exposed bathroom light switch sticking out from the wall, and damage where the ceiling meets the wall. <\/p>\n

Rhonda said management has resolved some previous complaints, but the specific issues just listed have remained unaddressed for months. <\/p>\n

The mom and wife said she\u2019s become more upset as the complex now seeks to implement a $20 rent increase for trash removal services. Current rent at the unit is just over $1,150.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy kids need a roof over their head, so of course I\u2019m going to pay it, but it sucks because y\u2019all know y\u2019all got this one,\u201d Rhonda said.<\/p>\n

News4JAX visited the front office at the complex Monday afternoon to ask about resident complaints. A manager identified as Rasheeda stated residents should contact management with their concerns, but declined to provide further comment before asking us to leave the property.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time News4JAX told people about residents\u2019 complaints there. In 2023, we reported on residents experiencing prolonged sewage problems.<\/p>\n

Rhonda, who plans to relocate, said she\u2019s speaking out to advocate for future tenants. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you have so many things you\u2019re requesting to get done in your unit, when you\u2019re meeting your end of the contract with the rent and y\u2019all give us BS, y\u2019all gotta come through,\u201d Rhonda said. \u201cAnd fix this right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

News4JAX has contacted city officials regarding compliance issues at the complex and potential timelines for addressing citations. The city did not immediately respond.<\/p>\n
