The chief of Sioux Valley Dakota Nation has been charged with a historical sexual assault, police say.<\/p>\n

Vincent Tacan, 65, was arrested on Nov. 5 and charged with sexual assault, RCMP said in a Monday news release.<\/p>\n

His arrest took place following “an extensive investigation.”<\/p>\n

In May, RCMP say a woman reported a historical sexual assault that took place in a western Manitoba community in 1984.<\/p>\n

In order to protect her identity, police say they are not identifying the woman or the community where the assault took place.<\/p>\n

The victim told police that the assault happened when she was a teenager under the age of 16, and that the perpetrator was a 24-year-old man at the time.<\/p>\n
