PHOENIX \u2014 A 17-year-old girl is dead after a shooting at an apartment in Avondale on Saturday morning, authorities said.<\/p>\n

According to the Avondale Police Department, officers were dispatched to an apartment near Rancho Santa Fe Boulevard and McDowell Road<\/a> for reports of a shooting around 6:27 a.m.<\/p>\n

Police who responded to the scene reportedly found 17-year-old Rhiana Kemplin suffering from a gunshot wound.<\/p>\n

Police said Kemplin was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hearts go out to Rhiana\u2019s family, friends and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss,\u201d Avondale Police Department Spokesperson Jenny Chavez said in a press release. \u201cThe Avondale Police Department extends its deepest condolences during this incredibly difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

A suspect has not been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting, but the investigation is ongoing, according to police.<\/p>\n
