HOUSTON \u2014 Firefighters battled a\u00a0large pallet fire<\/a> that was spread by wind in northeast Houston on Monday, according to the fire department.<\/p>\n

It was first reported around 1:15 p.m. at a lot at the intersection of Terminal Street and Wayside Drive<\/a>, which is just inside the 610 East Loop, north of Wallisville Road.<\/p>\n

It spread thick black smoke that could be seen for miles.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When Air 11 flew over the scene, wooden pallets could be seen burning at the facility. Firefighters used water hoses to fight the flames from the ground and on ladders.<\/p>\n

HFD cleared the scene just before 4 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n

They said no one was injured in the fire, but flames destroyed dozens of pallets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Workers were seen sifting through the debris to assess the damage at the facility, which builds and stores the pallets.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The business sits next to a large Union Pacific railyard, but firefighters said the flames never crossed the tree line or impacted the trains in any way.<\/p>\n

Houston Fire Department officials said it was first reported as a trash fire, and the wind helped to spread the flames. An investigation is underway.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
