N.Y. (WBNG) — BUMP NY is spearheading an initiative to secure livable wages for nonprofit human service workers across New York state.<\/p>\n
The organization has partnered with CUNY\u2019s Institute for State and Local Governance to conduct a study on the challenges facing the human services workforce. This sector includes essential workers such as home health aides, childcare workers and nursing assistants.<\/p>\n
BUMP NY is pushing for a statewide wage floor that would increase wages to $29 per hour. <\/p>\n
\u201cMore than 100,000 people will be lifted out of poverty, it will generate $23 billion in economic activity across new York and in Binghamton alone, 1600 people will be lifted out of poverty and it will generate around $36 million worth of economic activity,\u201d President and CEO Melanie Hartzog said.<\/p>\n
BUMP NY emphasizes that higher wages empower workers to invest more in their local communities, supporting businesses like grocery stores and securing necessary services such as childcare.<\/p>\n
