The Senate on Monday passed a short-term government funding bill and sent it to the House, where a vote could come as early as Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The bill would fund the government through Jan. 30 and provide funding for some government agencies for the remainder of the fiscal year.<\/p>\n

House could vote on government funding bill as early as Wednesday<\/p>\n

The House is officially returning to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday and will hold its first votes as early as 4:00 p.m. ET to reopen the government, according to a notice from GOP Whip Tom Emmer.<\/p>\n

There are several steps House lawmakers will need to take before getting to final passage. Multiple vote series are expected on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

Emmer tells lawmakers to “stay tuned” for updates on more precise timing for votes.<\/p>\n

Senate passes funding bill to end government shutdown, sending it to House<\/p>\n

The Senate passed its bill that would end the government shutdown on Monday night by a vote of 60-40.<\/p>\n

The bill now heads to the House of Representatives for further consideration. The House could vote on it as soon as Wednesday and then send it on to President Donald Trump’s desk.<\/p>\n

The vote was gaveled down at 9:26 p.m. EST. Sen. Eric Schmitt was presiding.<\/p>\n

The same Democratic senators who supported this bill during Sunday’s procedural vote supported it again on Monday night. Eight members of the Democratic caucus voted in favor of the bills: Sens. Tim Kaine, Dick Durbin, Maggie Hassan, Jeanne Shaheen, Jacky Rosen, Catherine Cortez Masto, John Fetterman and Angus King. Sen. Rand Paul was the only Republican to cast a vote against the bill.<\/p>\n

Senate locks in vote on funding bill Monday night<\/p>\n

The Senate has officially locked in a deal to complete its work on government funding Monday night.<\/p>\n

The Senate was scheduled to begin a series of eight votes at 5:30 p.m. The eighth and final vote in the series will be the vote to pass the government funding bill. It is expected to pass.<\/p>\n

Votes in the Senate can sometimes take a while unless senators are motivated to move quickly. It could take three hours to get through all eight votes.<\/p>\n

Once the Senate votes on the bill, it will go to the House for consideration there.<\/p>\n
