JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 As people head to the beach for the long holiday weekend, Jacksonville Beach Police say they want to ensure public safety and plan to strictly enforce the law. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe want people to come and have fun, but be safe about it,\u201d said Sgt. Tonya Tator with the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.<\/p>\n

And the city dealt with an earlier fatal shooting in 2017 during Fourth of July celebrations that year. <\/p>\n Since March 1st, 2025, Jax Beach Police has been following a strict enforcement safety plan to handle larger influxes of people, which they call Spring Surge 2025. <\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: <\/b>Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/b><\/a>]<\/b><\/p>\n \u201cA strict enforcement detail that we did for several months, basically focusing on guns, gangs, and drugs, and any type of quality of life crime,\u201d said Sgt. Tonya Tator with the Jacksonville Beach Police Department. \u201cPutting the word out there that we\u2019re not tolerating it.\u201d <\/p>\n Sgt. Tonya Tator with the Jacksonville Beach Police Department says visitors can expect officers to be out and about, making sure everyone is safe. She told me that so far, this plan has been successful.<\/p>\n \u201cMemorial Day was a good holiday with no violence,\u201d said Sgt.
