{"id":371287,"date":"2025-11-11T10:03:28","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T10:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/371287\/"},"modified":"2025-11-11T10:03:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T10:03:28","slug":"meg-edited-jack-whites-speech-ahead-of-the-white-stripes-rock-hall-induction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/371287\/","title":{"rendered":"Meg edited Jack White&#8217;s speech ahead of The White Stripes&#8217; Rock Hall induction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/meg-white\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meg White<\/a> helped edit her ex-husband Jack\u2019s speech ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/the-white-stripes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The White Stripes<\/a>\u2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/jack-white-honours-sister-meg-as-olivia-rodrigo-feist-and-twenty-one-pilots-cover-the-white-stripes-at-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-induction-3906703\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">induction into the Rock &amp; Roll Hall of Fame last weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"post-content-read-more\">\n<li><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/reviews\/album\/jack-white-no-name-album-review-3781001\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Jack White \u2013 \u2018No Name\u2019 review: surprise album is maestro\u2019s punkiest outing since White Stripes<\/b><\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Last weekend (November 8) saw the annual Rock Hall ceremony take place at Los Angeles\u2019 Peacock Theater, with inductees including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/outkast\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OutKast<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/soundgarden\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Soundgarden<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/cyndi-lauper\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cyndi Lauper<\/a>, Chubby Checker,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/bad-company\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bad Company<\/a>, Joe Cocker and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-2025-the-white-stripes-cyndi-lauper-outkast-soundgarden-and-more-to-be-inducted-this-november-3858689\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jack and Meg White<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meg wasn\u2019t present at the ceremony, as she has stuck to keeping out of the spotlight since The White Stripes broke up in 2011. Instead, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/jack-white-honours-sister-meg-as-olivia-rodrigo-feist-and-twenty-one-pilots-cover-the-white-stripes-at-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-induction-3906703\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jack accepted the honour on behalf of her<\/a>, and revealed during his speech that he had spoken to Meg \u201cthe other day\u201d ahead of the ceremony, when she helped him edit his speech.<\/p>\n<p>While on the podium, Jack shared: \u201cI spoke with Meg White the other day, and she said that she\u2019s very sorry she couldn\u2019t make it here tonight, but she wanted me to tell you that she\u2019s very grateful. And to all of the folks who supported her in all the years, it really means a lot to her. She also helped me write all this\u2026 I sent these things to her. She checked it for me for a lot of punctuation and corrections. She\u2019s pretty good at that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Later on in his speech, he thanked her for their time together \u2013 both as a band and as romantic partners \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/jack-white-honours-sister-meg-as-olivia-rodrigo-feist-and-twenty-one-pilots-cover-the-white-stripes-at-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-induction-3906703\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">and rounded off his speech by reading out a story about the band that he had wanted to send to Meg<\/a>, who was hearing it for the first time along with the audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was gonna send this to Meg, but I didn\u2019t get around to it, so I thought I\u2019d read it to you all tonight,\u201d White began. \u201cOne time, a girl climbed a tree, and in that tree was a boy \u2014 her brother, she thought. And the tree looked so glorious and beautiful, but it was just an oak tree.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd these two so loved the world that they brought forth a parade float \u2013 one they built in their garage behind the oak tree with their own bare hands. And the boy looked at this giant peppermint on wheels and felt pride \u2013 pride that it was produced in the Motor City, just like in the big factories \u2013 but it was just in their garage. He looked at the girl \u2014 his sister, he thought \u2013 and, like the Little Rascals, they said, \u2018Let\u2019s put on a show.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd they paraded this float through the Cass Corridor,\u201d the White Stripes frontman continued, \u201cstanding atop the peppermint pulled by white horses \u2013 or maybe it was a red Econoline van. Many of the blocks they travelled were empty, but some had people. And some of those people cheered, some laughed, and some even threw stones. And with their bare hands, the two started to clap and sing and make up songs.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DQ0s305EaoX\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAnd some people kept watching and swaying and moving. And then one person even smiled. The boy and the girl looked at each other, and they also smiled, and they felt \u2014 they both felt \u2013 the sin of pride. But they kept on smiling. Smiling from a new freedom, knowing that they had shared and made another person feel something.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd they thought the person smiling at them was a stranger, someone they didn\u2019t even know. But it wasn\u2019t just a stranger. It was God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/olivia-rodrigo\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Olivia Rodrigo<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/feist\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Feist<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/twenty-one-pilots\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Twenty One Pilots<\/a> also performed at the ceremony to honour The White Stripes. Rodrigo and Feist took on an acoustic duet of \u2018We\u2019re Going To Be Friends\u2019 from 2001\u2019s \u2018White Blood Cells\u2019, which was the song the White Stripes played in their final performance on Late Night With Conan O\u2019Brien\u00a0back\u00a0in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty One Pilots then covered \u2018Seven Nation Army\u2019, the track Rodrigo dubbed the \u201cmost iconic song of all time\u201d in a video that preceded White\u2019s speech.
